It certainly does help to have that extra boost (in America at least) just in case you come neck and neck with some one for entrance and they boot you because of it. Especially if your want an ivy league school I will guarantee you that 99% of all the people accepted have some extra curricular.

Extra curriculas don't have to be sports or clubs, they can be counted as having a job, doing community service, having some kind of fund raiser or petition for what you believe in, playing an instrument for a number of years (doesn't have to be in school), they just pretty much want to make sure that you are dedicated and would be a positive asset for the community or something and not only to your self. Because you know they are educating future leaders of the world they want to make sure these minds have goals, and places to go.

And a definite yes with that assistant thing it would surely help you.

I had this same problem when I was applying to college, but I freaked out over nothing.

I had no extracurriculars whatsoever, and I got into my first choice school, which is a private school and doesn't accept many people.

From what I can tell, colleges take all types. Of course they like those who do everything, but even Harvard admits that it takes the "well-lopsided" kids as well. Don't worry! I'm quite well-lopsided, and I'm planning on applying to Cornell and Harvard next year. :D Wish me luck!

v Yeah the three of us go to the same school and it is one of the few sports they still offer. Just apply for a ton of grants and what not if you are worried financially.

I would totally do swimming, like most of you, but my school doesn't do that. It's probably the only thing we don't have.

If you can (if it is offered at your school) try getting into the National Honor Society, it's academically based, but it works toward community service. Or even if you're in Student Council. Or if you take part in school theatre, or have competed in an art show. Heck, if you have been in Girl Scouts (or the like) for any of your high school time, it will work. You don't necessarily need to participate in sports.

Come to Australia for college! Nobody here gives a rats' ass what kind of extracurricular activities you did, as long as you can pay! :D

    1. I love your username and your avatar.

    2. I didn't have very many extracurricular activities when I applied for college, and I got into my top choice.
