I've been there, on both things. On the friend/(boy)friend thing, your really have to go with what your heart is telling you to do. If she is your real friend, she will get over it and should accept it. It's going to hurt her at first, of course, but she should get over it.

The grandma thing, something like that happened to my grandfather. It was not as bad as cancer, but no less heartbreaking. My grandfather had a heart transplant in 2000. He was doing exceptionally well for five years, until one day he had a sore on his arm. Being his usual stubborn self, he wouldn't go to the doctor. Turns out, that sore spot caused his heart to work on overdrive and he had a heart attack. Just like that, he was gone.

I'm still not over it, and it was five years ago. So give it time, as much as you need. When you are close to someone, it hurts a lot worse. A suggestion? Find something that numbs the pain...writing or listening to music. Something that just lets you remember the good times you two shared, and not her dying.

    Sorry for the rant.

Just do your best to make it through. That's all I can say, dear.
