I can talk to my father about anything and he'll handle things if it has been taken too far.

Um...My story...My dad lost his mind, threatened my mother and now I've emotionally disowned him?

I'm not religious, but I'm glad you're finding comfort in god :) Maybe you should try to initiate a talk with him? Call him and maybe just start with "We need to talk?" I'm not sure whether or not you've done that before, but its worth a shot?

V That was mine before he lost his marbles

I have my father in my life, but I can't speak with him. We live in the same house and we see each other every day, but I don't have the confidence or the security to speak with him. He's a tyrant and since we're both hotheads, we can't even hold a conversation without one of us yelling.
A dad is supposed to hold the head of the household and be the provitor and protector. It's different being a dad, father and daddy. I stopped calling my dad, Daddy a long time ago. 1. because I grew up 2. I'm more of a mommy's girl than a daddy's girl.
