I'm the same way. Sometimes I read to my mom what I wrote for school. That's about it though. I read a short-story to my dad once and He started calling me all these names like twisted and disturbed. He kinda made fun of my story too.

Personally, I don't tend to. I refer to my stories occasionally when around friends who also write but to be honest, I'm kinda embarassed by it too. I write fan fiction so it makes me think people would think I'm weird or stalkery! Haha, I know I just said that.
Same for my parents I think too. I've never let them read my homework or anything either! But also, I do essay based subjects which drains my writing style these days, and my mum is an english specialist so I get it in my head she'd be critical. Not to mention I can put inapropriate jokes in my writing etc and that's not really what I want my parents to be seeing :L
I don't tend to write much anymore anyway, or read for that matter but it's like my pwn little thing that no one can take away from me if I don't tell them.

I tell my friends every now and then when they ask me what I'm doing or what I've been up to. I told my sister the other day, but I won't let her read any of my stuff. I'm kind of afraid to let people read my stories because it might be embarassing. I get anxiety that they might not like it or that they'll think it's stupid. Trust me, you're not alone.

My parents both know that I write, and they're both really proud of me. Their only complaint is that I don't show them what I write often enough. But my mom thinks I'm an amazing writer for my age, and it's kind of embarrassing when she goes around telling people.

Most of my real friends (scratch that - all of them) write, too, ironically. So it's not a problem. I don't honestly thing it would be an issue for you to tell other people, but then again, I don't know your family or your friends. But I can't see that they would have that much of a negative response - so much so that it discourages you from writing altogether. Good luck, and tell people when you feel comfortable enough to.

I know what you mean...my mom doesn't really like the idea of me being a writer...she basically says it's not worth it... don't worry bout other people think, do what you want in life because sooner or later these people won't matter as much as you think...as for your mom...just tell her to learn to accept it

I don't tell people since lots of people I know tend to be judgemental. I mean my parents know but they harass me about it a lot (what are you doing? what are you writing about? Am I allowed to see? Why not? Is it because your swearing?) It gets annoying. I kinda wish I hadn't told them

I don't tell people I write either. For some reason i didn't think my friends would... understand? And I got really close to a few people on here too, and I didn't think they could understand that. But, I met this guy on here who I really care about, and I told my best friend about it just this past Sunday. She was very understanding surprisingly. I told her i hated how him and I have no other way to talk besides here, she suggested exchanging phone numbers. So like, she didn't care. I was very happy about it. I mean, I kept this a secret from my best friend for over a year, and I told her, even told her that I met a guy on here who I loved, and she didn't care. She asked me about him, lmao. So, I think, you're family and friends would be more accepting of it than you think. But, it is completely up to you(: Good luck with whatever you decide!

No, but I would never tell people I write, simply because I know that none of my friends would ever live it down. .__.

And plus, I seem like the last person that would be writing. xD

Um - why wouldn't they like it? That's my question. For the most part, I walk around with f*cking words on my forehead to tell people I write. xDDD
