You've brought up a very good point. It also seems that there is a lack of other non-white ethnicities on Mibba as well; there isn't just a lack of African-American characters. I haven't seen that many Asian, Hispanic, Native American, or biracial characters on this site either. I suppose most people natureally tend to make characters of their own race, so that they can somewhat connect with their own character. It seems in many cases that an author's character, in some way, whether it be a small or large one, it kind of a part of the author. I don't mean the author makes the character just like them, and just changes the name (even thought that does happen). I mean, when an author creates an original character, some of the character's beliefs, pet peeves, attributes, manners, etc. may match some of those of the author. The author may not even know that they are doing this (making the character somewhat, if only a little bit, like them). This isn't always the case, however, but I have noticed it.

I do think that you're right; there should be many characters of all ethnic backgrounds (as well as other backgrounds, like culture, religion, etc). Reading this has kind of inspired me. I'm more determined to create more diverse characters now. However, this may be a challenge because to be honest, I don't really know much about other cultures outside of my own (and to be honest, my culture...seems to be pretty much non existant). However, I am going to try!

Whilst I do agree with your point on people having different ideas of the beautiful, I disagree on mentalities. I don't think someone's mentality would change radically from one ethnicity to another.

    Are you fucking serious??
The whole point of this was a rant and maybe for someone to just help her find a story that's including black people. I don't beleive many black peoples feelings are hurt because personally they just don't give a fuck about this site in the first place that's why you only find few. The majority is white emo people that are just posting there shit to pass the damn time. I say give her a break and stop taking her words out of context.

ALL SHE'S SAYING IS SHE WOULD BE HAPPY TO FIND MORE BLACK STORIES ON MIBBA. IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE GETTING HELLA OFFENDED!!!

You wanna know what I think is hilarious?? This is one of the most read journals on mibba and it has nothing to do with helping, but because it's a clash of races just in the title. That's one thing I don't agree on with siren_cryer. She shouldn't had made herself stick out like a sore thumb.

Personally, if there are black people in my story, I'm not going to tag it with "black people" or "Africans" or the like. It's just not done.

I think that this is actually kind of annoying.

Maybe it's just me, but suddenly we're all spazzing out over nothing. Like, the black people will go and say, "Oh, you're hurting our feelings" or whatever over the smallest things. Like I swear I could find someone black who was offended when I said "the black people". I'm sure there are black people stories on Mibba, you just have to search around long enough, but honestly it's just annoying nowadays when black people say we're being unfair to them because of small things like that. And it's like suddenly we're the bad guys. This isn't the Civil War, tbh. :/

People here just read more white people stuff (or write it) than black. *shrug*

There are. There simply isn't "a lot" because the black people are in the minority on this site. That's also why there isn't a lot of stories with adult characters, or main characters that are 'preps.'

Anyway, if you look here (http://www.mibba.com/forums/topic/124815/1/) you'll probably be able to find more.

Personally, I do write characters of different ethnicity, but like asteroid said, I don't usually spend a lot of time describing my character's physical look so what race (and sometimes sex) my characters actually are often go unnoticed by the reader.

But when it comes to races, they all differ because of different types of beauty, I change my mind, I do care if I sound racist.

Theres body type, facial features, hair color and textures, and even mindset is a feature I can say. Most of us have different mentalities. All races have different types of beauty that others can't copy no matter how much they try, and I just want to see more blacks in stories on here that show exactly what I'm saying.

A lot of stories I find don't even focus on the physical aspects of the characters unless it's necessary.

Whilst the majority of the fiction here is pretty similar in design, not all fic is the same. I mean, I never usually assign ethnicity to my characters because I kinda concentrate on the metaphysical rather than the physical. Most of the stories I write are more based on interesting things that I learn about than what happens in my day to day life since my reality is...frankly shit for a story.

I could probably write about all the shitey gang bullshit that happens around where I live but I don't relate to that even though that's where my sociological grouping occurs.

C'est la vie. I prefer aliens and philosophy to junkies and knife crime. XD

No, that's not how I meant for it to sound.
When it comes to urban, more than half of those stories have some truth to them or they're actually someone the author knows, but they've just changed the names. What I write, my urban tales are true. But they're not my life. They're family members or people I have observed.
There has to be drame in a story plot to be interesting to the readers and even though I've read mainstream fiction plenty of times, I can't relate to them. That's what I mean

You're talking about urban/street fiction vs. mainstream fiction, right? Because I don't think that people write like the colour of their skin.

I definitely agree with Jinxeh on the "write what you know" bit.

"Write what you know." So I've come down from Planet Xonix and I don't feel like bashing people anymore for their choice of writing. It's just that, I'm always reading published street fiction and I want to read some peoples amateur work on it. My work is completley amateur but I'm working on it cus the whole plot is original and maybe one day I'll get it published.

When it comes to me, I'll just about read every genre there is to writing. So when you say people 'write what they know', it makes me understand better. I know alot about all types and I'm never out of my element. Thanks. =)

What Jewel Nicole said. Also, it probably goes along the lines of "write what you know" and all, and a large chunk of Mibba happens to be white. I personally like to write with diverse casts, white, black, whatever, but generally my main characters tend to be mostly white.

Wow, I guess I'll have to dig but I'm lazy so that won't be happening anytime soon. I've tried looking tags up and everything. There was this one guy that was writing the type of stories I'm looking for, but he only had a few chapters and he hasn't been back on mibba in the longest time.

I'm seriously thinking the same thing. I haven't found any on here before and most of the authors on this site are white and if they're black they're usually oreo's so they write like white people. I mean no offense, but it's true.

Jewel is right there prolly is some on the site some where its just going to take a lot of work to find them because Mibba much like any other site is mostly fanfiction so you have to dig through them to find the original stories

I'm sure there are some somewhere on here. You can find pretty much anything on Mibba.
