Poor Old Judas. - Comments

  • Yeah, but he's always the best in Jesus Christ Superstar.

  • I don't think Judas was evil.

  • As seen in the Bible a number of times, God uses the actions of people with evil intentions for good. That's what happened in this case; God took advantage Judas Iscariot's evil for a greater good.

  • I don't think that's the same as being destined. I think destined means it's the future and there's no way you can change it even if you tried. So it's just one of those words that means different things to different people, I guess. XD

  • v Just because God knows we're going to do something -- and I believe He knows everything we're going to do -- doesn't mean we don't have a choice. He knows what I'm going to wear tomorrow, but that doesn't mean I didn't pick those clothes. I'm going to pick them out myself.

  • Yeah, but if Judas was destined then that means he had no choice. Either he was destined or he wasn't.

  • Judas was destined to betray Jesus on the cross, yes, but that doesn't mean it wasn't his choice to do so or that it was a good thing.

I think of it like this: You have a friend and you know she hates vanilla ice cream and love chocolate. She comes to your house and you have those two kinds. You ask her what she wants, even though you know what she's going to get. Just because she chose what you knew she was going to, does that mean it was your choice and not hers? No, she still made the decision.

Judas still made the decision to betray Jesus and even though it had to happen, it was still a bad thing to do. He handed over the Savior to be tortured.

I do feel sorry for Judas, and I don't think you'll find many Christians out there who hate Judas or say terrible things about him. He made a mistake -- the biggest one you could ever make really -- and even though it was something that had to happen, it was still a bad thing that he did.

  • I asked the same question once. "Isn't Judas betraying Jesus a good thing so He could die on the cross?" I got stared at like I was an idiot. The same way I got stared at when I asked if we should pray for God to save Satan. Then the person told me I could but it wouldn't help. (This was a youth minister, mind you.) And I asked if that wasn't in contradiction with the Bible verse which says all things are possible through Him and the other verse that says you can move a mountain if you truly believe you can. I got the look again. XD
