Death of bin Laden - Comments

Of course. He was a horrible person but I don't like the fact that a person died to prove murder is wrong.May 5th, 2011 at 11:04pm

I think his death was aweful and unnecessary. I feel bad for him to some extent. But he is still a not-so-nice person for the things he did/didn't do.May 5th, 2011 at 11:02pm

The "there's no other way" mentality destroys people. With all the power Obama has I'm sure he had ways and means of ending things differently. In truth, none of us were there so none of us know what happened in that room. But there was also several other people killed in that room on that same day, and who's to say they deserved it? It wasn't right how it was done.May 5th, 2011 at 10:59pm

England.
I still say that 0.1% margin is enough to make me think differently. Maybe that's just me; maybe I'm wrong, but as someone who has had both the FBI and the local police departments digging through her life for the past month, I'd like to think I'm entitled to that.May 5th, 2011 at 10:53pm -
Land.Of.The.Fallen I wasn't trying to be patronizing, and if it came across, that way, I apologize.
What I don't get is that if you were against us killing him, then what else would you expect to be done? There is nothing else.May 5th, 2011 at 10:51pm -
I found an article from the New York Times....
Officials said they collected multiple DNA samples from Bin Laden’s relatives in the years since the Sept. 11 attacks. And they said the analysis, which was performed the day Bin Laden was killed but after his body was buried at sea, confirmed his identity with 99.9 percent accuracy.
Some scientific experts said on Monday that if results really were so accurate, at least one of the sources was likely to have been a close relative, like a child or parent with whom he shared half his genes.May 5th, 2011 at 10:50pm -
I didn't expect the majority of people to agree with me when I wrote this, but Lizzie, please don't patronise me because of my opinion. I get that people wanted revenge. I just wish it hadn't ended in the death of yet another person. No matter what you thought of him, he was still a person.May 5th, 2011 at 10:49pm

Familial testing isn't nearly as accurate as subject to subject. The only way to be absolutely sure would be to have the DNA of both parents, and to rule out any siblings as well. I'm sorry, but, while it may be plausible, it seems highly unlikely to me.
I don't see why he would choose to do that. Honestly, I could care less whether he's dead or not - he had it coming to him either way - but I'd think the nation would be given some proof before they started to celebrate.May 5th, 2011 at 10:47pm -
AccidentallyAaden bin Laden has family. Family that doesn't agree with his views and actions. I'm sure one of them probably offered their DNA.
And the government has photos but Obama has decided not to release them.May 5th, 2011 at 10:43pm -
My mom works for DIA so she had access to the photos. I don't know anything about DNA testing, but there is no doubt that it was OBL that was killed.May 5th, 2011 at 10:42pm

Aaden I have no idea, but that's what the news kept saying. I'm sure it's in some government record somewhere, even if it's not a US file.May 5th, 2011 at 10:42pm

bookshade.
Oh? I mean, I've seen the photos from inside the compound where he was found, but I haven't heard anything about photos of him. Where did your mother hear about/see them?
v.
Where would they get the original DNA from anyway? What's it being compared to?
Just curious, I'd like to be as informed as the next.May 5th, 2011 at 10:40pm -
Land.Of.The.Fallen Then what do you think we should have done with him? Just give him a pat on the back of the hand and tell him, "bad boy!"? Killing him was the best thing to do. What else was there?
bookshade Didn't they also do DNA testing?May 5th, 2011 at 10:40pm -

AccidentlyAaden
There are photos/evidence, my mom said that they're pretty grusome which is why they aren't being released to the public.
England's Dreaming
I can't think that. There are some people in the world that I don't think deserve a second chance, and he was one of them. It's how I feel about the subject, but I understand your view point, but I just... I knew people who died in 9/11, I had a neighbor who was my age who was killed and I just... I can't find it in me to feel that he deserved to live.May 5th, 2011 at 10:38pm -
V There is no other option. As England's Dreaming said, his followers would retaliate even more harshly had we kept him alive and in prison. Plus, where would we keep him? What could we possibly do with him?
His death was the safest (and easiest) way to deal with him.May 5th, 2011 at 10:35pm -
He would've been sentenced to death anyway, we killed him on site because he, supposedly, produced a weapon and refused to surrender it.
But I still don't think he's dead - not really. Not body, no photos, no proof.May 5th, 2011 at 10:35pm -
I'm not saying what he did was right. I just had hoped it wouldn't have come to another death.May 5th, 2011 at 10:33pm
Yes he was evil, yes he killed millions, yes he was the biggest enemy of the europian and american nation, but murdering a murderer just to prove murder is wrong is a tad bit contradictive. And the way people took to the streets, yeh that was awfully wrong, because how low has humanity stooped if we have to celebrate someones death. Its not human at all, and its poor behaviour. Osama dead or not, fire has been triggered and frankly i coudnt care about him anymore, now what we have to think about is how to prevent any attacks that can kill potentially hundreds.
