My nighmares are always the same - but they've changed slightly since I got into a new relationship. I was in an abusive relationship in late 2009 until mid 2010. It was verbally / mentally abusive but sometimes he'd physically abuse me, very rarely though. Anyway, I often have nightmares of the times he's been screaming in my face and pushing on my throat and collarbone as hard as he can. Since I've gotten into a new relationship, my ex's face always morphs into my current boyfriend's face. I always wake up unable to breath and crying.

I always start reading or writing afterwards, no matter what. One of my teachers had a degree in psychology and he told me that that and just breathing would help. And that I needed to remind myself that those things would never happen again and that my current boyfriend would not hurt me like my ex did. Just telling yourself that your dream isn't real and that you won't have to physically experience it again helps so much. For me, anyway.
