Ariveria I'm sorry :( It's great that presents isn't the reason you love it, it never should be. But, oh, my goodness yes, it does get way to commericalized.
I get your point of view, but... my Thanksgiving is horrible, every year, without fail. One of the absolute worst days of the year. So to be honest, I prefer to pretend it's not happening. Christmas is a nice distraction for me. As soon as my parents start making the Thanksgiving plans, I head to Kohl's to bask in their early spirit. :P
Though I do understand being frustrated with how caught up in money it gets. My thoughts on Christmas wouldn't change if presents were taken out of the equation, honestly, because that's not the reason I love it. But it gets so commercialized, sometimes. :(
Wanderlust I've, honestly never said grace before I eat, but it's good to think about what you have and others don't, to keep yourself in check, haha. :) OMG! I know. Every commerical is 'oh, having this will blah blah blah...'
Airi-chan Christmas, I think, is more for the kids. The kids are targeted by seeing all these new toys at stores and on TV and the parents end up paying for everything.
Neche Narissist I'm not saying that its super duper important, but it should be more than just passed over like Christmas is so much better. Oh, yeah, cannot forget the food. :)
Charity M. Lewis My family get together( my moms side) and we eat and the adults always end up playing some board game while my male cousins wrestle. Or the ladies just talk and the guys watch a game :) Haha, have fun with that!
eight letters late Exactly! Then it's New Years. And Easter. Halloween, Christmas, Easter are, like, the main money spending ones. And all the rest are swatted to the dust.
It annoys me how Christmas things are advertised so early as well. I don't really celebrate any holidays but it does bother me how no one really remembers Thanksgiving anymore since they're overly excited for Christmas.
I adore Thanksgiving. At my casa it's not a big affair but we do talk about what we're grateful for and say grace before we eat. It's a smidge awkward cause I'm the only atheist in the family but yeah :) I wish it was appreciated more but as you said the US is a huuuge consumer
