I agree writing doesn't have to have a dark edge. Often it is beautiful and filled with such light and joy its inspiring. But some writers have seen a bit too much, and they look at writing for an escape. And sometimes this flows into their stories although not always obviously. I didn't mean it all has a dark edge. :)
And I agree I love poetry although I'm not skilled enough to write it, its beautiful like you said.
I don't think writing has to have a dark edge. All fiction must have conflict, but literature doesn't have to be dark; it can be enlightening, too.
But I am most definitely in love with writing. I love the way words work together. My preferred genre to write is poetry; in poetry, the words dance. They don't necessarily tell a story, though they do that too. They create still frame images that are distorted and shifted a different way every time you look at them. It really is a beautiful thing.
