You could always a) take a year off like your mom said. A ton of people do that. You could B) Go to a community college then try to transfer in. Then you could C) Go to your second choice college for a year, get all your gen. eds. done and then apply again.

Look on the bright side, I'm sure more people are further down the waiting list than you. That really sucks though, I'm sorry. You have choices though, consider them. You may not even end up liking your first choice.

You could wait and try for spring term and in the mean time try for higher sat scores or more extracurricular or comunity service activities.

Depending on what degree you want there will be plenty more chances to try and be transfered to that school or admitted for a new year. It might be nice to go to a diff school or college for a year just to get use to college life and requierments before taking tge next step up.

Thanks, that helped. :) I know she's not trying to put me down, but I'm just hearing it that way because I feel like there was something I could have done better. I suppose I'll get used to the idea eventually.

It's completely natural for you to feel devastated if you poured so much of yourself into your hopes. But I don't think your mother thinks you weren't good enough to be accepted. She probably understood that prestigious private schools have a tendency to shift which areas of the country they get the bulk of their students from each year. Of course, there are other factors too, like meeting quotas and such. Don't blame yourself. It probably wasn't even your fault.

You still have two weeks before sending in the deposit, right? Take some time to breathe and clear your head. You can always go to your second-choice school and then try to transfer to your first choice after a semester or two.
