I agree with colibri and Disturbed;;.

However, colibri, have you even read Harry Potter? To say it was written for money is laughable. It's infused with life lessons like loyalty; bravery; creating strong, true friendships; and overcoming adversities like sexism, racism, and discrimination of classes. That's just a few examples. The story may seem straight forward, but the lessons are deep, complex, and stem from multiple events throughout history. Although it may not be a standalone "classic" or "masterpiece", it is a brilliant work of fiction that acts as a teacher for the young minds who read it. In fact, I would go so far as to say it can help form the character of the readers in ways that parents and real teachers can't. It parallels growing up to a T--the tensions between classmates, possible types of discrimination, potential hardships that not even a majority of adults face in their lifetimes, confusing mixtures of emotions and hormones, etc. So, uh... good joke.

The Hunger Games is just trashy awful fiction. Whereas The Lord of The Flies is a masterpiece. Why would a teacher want to teach such useless shit like the Hunger Games?

... but Lord of the Flies isn't JUST violence. It isn't just the acts of the people in the book that makes it a book to read in schools. It has a lot more meaning, and the writing itself is important. I don't see how the Hunger Games is in any way beneficial next to Lord of the Flies. Though I've never read it, it definitely looks like just another series such as Harry Potter or Twilight, made for money.

If you're just reading these books and taking out "oh this is about suicide it's such a terrible thing to read about" and "oh this is so full of violence" then you really shouldn't be reading books at all. Because that isn't the true meaning. The true meaning of books, of writing, is to get every bit out of it. Shakespeare did not write his play Romeo and Juliet based around the fact that people committed suicide in it. That is just ONE small part of the entire book, and if people are going to think "well since Shakespeare wrote about suicide, I'm going to commit suicide." then they are stupid and probably SHOULD die.

What about Romeo and Juliet then? That's advocating suicide in my books, to me an over dramatic brat because you don't get what you want. That's what that is about yet we HAVE to learn about that. That is stupid.

V Same, until this morning. Now that I think about it, this does make the school systems a little bit like the capital, eh?

It should be illegal >:( All my sticky notes, and even the room walls, ruined.

I wasn't aware that they were being banned! I completely agree though. When I first read the hunger games I kept thinking about how much it was like lord of the flies. The school system irks me sometimes.

    As for 4:20 I completely agree. -_-
