My advice:
Just people he knows you're a difficult person, doesn't mean he has to like it or put up with it. I'm not going to be all "change yourself" but maybe you could try and chill out. You don't always have to be right. You don't have to feel like your "pride" is hurt if you have to apologize. You had to say sorry, so what?
Here it is in a simpler way:
1. Stop always having to be right.
2. Admit you're wrong, because you're not always right.
3. Stop being controlling, or he's going to dump you.
& he probably doesn't open up to you, because he's not happy with your relationship. (I don't know you ) but he might think that you'll just turn it all around on him/boss him around/become offended/become difficult.
Here's the simplest way I can put my advice:
Chill the f*** out.
