I completely agree. However, the first story I wrote was similar to this, and I like to think I've improved. So maybe this is just a starting point for a lot of writers? Maybe I'm being too optimistic. Blech.

That's not just fanfiction. A lot of stories feature a main character who is an "outcast." Being an outcast is kind of in right now.

I totally know what you mean. I never read Avenged Sevenfold fanfiction because they're basically just self-inserts with only sex as the main plot, or at least the one's I've seen. They're either cliche, or they're terriblly written. I used to be guilty of that, but thank goodness I got better at writing. I tend to stay away from band fanfic now, but when do write one I try and think of original plots and stuff

If you want to check out something good that isn't fanfiction, one of my stories, The Macabre Tales of Young Edgar, is finished and published, while another, Doll, is a half-finished novel that will be published soon.

I find that a lot of things on this site are cliche, but I think that's mainly because the authors are writing for their own gratification. There's nothing wrong with that, but I understand your frustration. I wouldn't read it either.

That's why I don't usually read fanfics with original female characters. I'm a die hard fan of slash and I love reading band pairing but that's just me. However I do find some het fanfics with amazing plots and different characters.

I get it. I adore A7X fan fics too, but so many authors kinda "copy" the other stories and turn it into their own so all there is is just more cliché stories.... That being said, I try to be quite original with mine. They're never teenage girls for a start, and quite often don't know A7X. I just posted an update for the least cliché A7X story ever as well, considering it's set way back in time (princes and princesses), which might be a breath of fresh air, if you're into it. End of self promotion lol :)
