Comparing a group of people who murdered tens of millions of people in the most brutal ways possible to a mean teacher is a bit of a reach in my opinion. Plus, Jews were far from being the only ones killed. It may seem like a lighthearted joke, but you never know who lost family members in the Holocaust. If you want to avoid that reaction, joke in a more private place where bystanders won't hear you. Just because they're not technically part of the conversation doesn't mean they won't pick up on what you're saying and feel awful as a result of it.

    I love Boo Radley.

Any way, I would say the comments are insensitive and thoughtless, not offensive because it was not intended to be, though some people may perceive it otherwise. Still, it is unwise to disregard other people's feelings even if you think it does not affect them.

How is that offensive? Who am I offending? The Nazis?

People take the phrase lightly nowadays. Very lightly. I've even used it before. But you should keep in mind that they were a group of people who slaughtered thousands. Not a light subject in the least. Using nazi to describe someone can be offensive. I wouldn't want to be described with that 'adjective', ever.

You may not think you're crossing the line with some of these jokes, which is fine, but you should respect other people and what they do and do not want to hear. If you're making someone uncomfortable with what you're saying, it's only polite to stop until they're gone.

I can't stand people like that.

Enough said there. It's just downright irritating.

As for the the thing with Daniel Tosh, I agree completely with you. I think he did go too far by saying what he did, but at the same time, I don't at all see it as a big deal. Call me insensitive, but I'm a bit more peeved by the woman even calling him out in the first place. If you're seeing Daniel Tosh performing a live comedy routine, then you know damn well that his comedy leaves nothing untouched, and that he's notorious for making jokes about touchy topics. That's like making the conscious decision to go see a horror movie and then complaining about how it had too much gore.
