Be careful, don't get friend zoned. Because when he finds someone else, you will magically disappear. I would just tell him, or give him subtle hints. There are lots of things you can do to get your point across subtly. If you party at all, I recommend drinking together because then you will be brave enough to tell him (if you aren't already), just don't hook up with him or anything while you're drinking- because that will send out the wrong signal as well. But he may feel the same way as you- just afraid to tell you like you're afraid to tell him. I see this with people all the time :)
