Topic 1: I think messages would be best. I sometimes don't read the authors note all the way through, horrible I know hah, and could end up skipping over what you would say.

Topic 2: I say blog. Again because I don't always read through :p and with story details and updates you could put all the info you want without making a monstrous authors note
