Yeah, that's definitely true. I love proving people wrong. But nay-sayers gonna nay-say, so they're probably going to find SOMETHING to criticize, but I guess that gives you even MORE to improve on. IT NEVER STAHPS AAAAHHHH.

Absolutely, and now you have that motivation to write something fucking awesome just to rub it into all the nay-sayers' faces.

Yeah, that's true, I'd rather get something negative than a lie saying the work is good.

But at the very least you know it's bad. So you know you have to improve. It'd be worse if he just said "Yeah you're great" but didn't mean it. Then you'd get that nice feeling and all but you wouldn't know you needed to improve. I do agree that he needed to be more constructive.

It HAS to be at least a bit constructive, or else you're just left with "bad" work and you might not know how to fix it!

Nah I don't agree. I think negative is the go. As long as it's somewhat constructive. People sugar coat things too much.

I do agree with you, however what he said would be hard to use to make her writing better. He didn't say why he thought her writing was terrible and he didn't say what she could do to improve upon it. I wouldn't say "negative criticism" is the best kind, I would say "constructive criticism" is. That way, you know what you need to make better.

It does sound like he was but he was also being mean. You do have a point, some people can take the honesty but others cant. She says its her friend even though he acts that way.

I think he was just being blunt, and if that's the way he gives his opinion, then so be it. We all have the choice to walk away from people we don't interact well with. If it's all such a big deal she should get rid of him. Ignore him. But in all honesty, I'd want him around because even if he seems like a douchebag, he's still being honest and that's what she asked for.

If there going to be rude about it then they shouldnt say anything about it. They can express there opinion just not say something bad about it unless you want them to be honest with you. But being honest with someone is the best way to get get better at what you want to do.

Why shouldn't they say their opinion? If I asked a friend for their honest opinion on my work and they said my writing sucked then I'd be grateful they were honest with me. Just because it isn't an positive opinion doesn't mean it needs to be shot down. That's just my opinion, of course.

I don't think he's in the wrong. If he thinks you're terrible he thinks you're terrible, though it kinda seems like he's joking. He could have been a little more constructive about it if he's serious (you're terrible because..), that sort of thing. Of course you're not going to like hearing that people think you suck, but that's life. He's not a douchebag for being a little wary of your goals. If you really want to get there you will, just keep getting better, use it as motivation. don't just dismiss people who don't like your stuff as douchebags. Negative criticism is the best kind.

I would be pissed to if a friend said that to me to because i love writing to and i want to be a journalist one day. Your friends are supposed to support you and if they dont think you can do it then they shouldnt say there opinion. But honestly your friend was being a jerk.

Even if you did "bring it on yourself" a bit, I'm still sorry it happened. You could just as easily say I bring it on myself by posting my work on mibba, but I'd still be hurt if someone were rude about it.

Like I said, he toed the line on being a douchebag, but I'd throw it into the "Not a very good friend" category.

The dreaded "Kk" ugh, when people say that it just grinds my gears. Along with just a pointed "Oh." Grounds to call someone a douchebag.

I just want to punch him, not gonna lie.

Anyone who uses "Kk" is a douchebag in my books. ShiftyWhistle

While some may argue that yeah, you asked for an honest opinion, that was definitely not an opinion. In no way was that an opinion. Facepalm

That's never happened to me before but my blood still boiled because I feel for you, man. lmfao

I know, I did kind of bring it upon myself. I was just shocked that it came from him. If it was a random stranger, I wouldn't have even cared, but it was someone that I talked to all the time and trusted.
But thank you for the support regardless. (:
