If there's readers who want to be "visible" to you in that way, they can click the "recommend" button and you'll be able to see them there - in the recommend tab on each individual story.

I think that's pretty much the best compromise available - so at least readers have a choice.

Unfortunately, even that could end in harassment of subscribers. They may not be able to see when a certain person has unsubscribed from their story, but they can still harass them about the comments. Not all subscribers comment on the story and the author could easily save the username and later constantly message them about why they aren't commenting. That is what could very easily cross the line into harassment. It's kind of sad, but a lot of users would use that feature to harass their fellow users and ruin it for everyone else so it's just not worth it in the end. v.v

Would be nice though. I just want to see because I'm interested in who is subscribing to my one shots.

That is an amazing idea, actually!

That's a good idea! Awhile back I was wishing for a way to send mass messages to them (for update details or explanations). Their names could all be hidden, but somehow you could pick one of your stories and message all the subscribers.
