Haha exactly. I know plenty of old people who are dicks. Being old doesn't give you the right to be rude and shitty. It's almost like the enforce this prejudice on young people sometimes and expect us to be nice to them after copping their garbage.

Yeah I agree with that. I have an even playing field for everyone to begin with. I'm not going to go out of my way to respect someone for something they can't control and put them over some other stranger.

Yeah I think that's what respect your elders is supposed to mean but I know a lot of old people who use it as "respect my even if I'm a cunt because I'm old".

It's very understandable to respect a select few. It means you have a high standard and that's not a bad thing at all.

    @ GoodGirl;
Lol oh no someone on the Internet doesn't like my opinion on something :( :( :(. Brb gonna go lay on the train tracks. Keep comments relevant to the blogs. My blog wasn't even about fat girls. It was about girls unwilling to work on bettering themselves that expect perfect guys who work very hard on their physique, personality and appearance.

Having said that, if you don't respect yourself (your personality, more than your body), then I probably won't respect you as much. Now go check your thin privilege blogs or whatever it is you people do after you finish telling off "fat shamers" like me. Silly girl.

I must have a different definition of respect to you. I say that everyone should be given a chance and be treated with courtesy, decency and a level of politeness. But respect is a much bigger thing that I don't just give away to anyone. Gotta work for that shit.

I agree with this blog. A lot of people think because of their age and because of their gender that everyone should cater to them or bend over backwards for them. I'm not saying I don't respect people, but I am one of those people who respects nearly everyone, kind of like your common decency thing, until the person gives me a reason to not respect them, after that they have to earn it all back.

I think the elder thing is about people that could be your great grandparents. Not just anyone older than you. That's what I think anyway. Coffee

But I agree. Respect is earned. Sure we all have a smidgen for everyone we meet to be nice (because hardly anyone is a dick to everyone) but true respect is earned. Because how can you give respect to someone you don't know? It's admiration. I don't admire everyone I see or meet.

I couldn't agree more than the female thing. I cannot stand it when women think they are entitled because they are a woman. To me that's ignorance. To give respect to every woman because your mother gave birth to you? Stupidity. Not every woman deserves respect. Same with not every man deserves respect.

I can count on one hand how many people I truly respect. Because to me respect is earned though blood and sweat. Not for having a vagina, being old or being a certain race. I have respect towards countless others but the true admiration lies with around five people in this world.

    That's just me though.

    Amen, brother.

People too often confuse basic human dignity with respect. You cannot have your dignity taken away from you, but you can lose your privilege to be respected. Because it's just that: a privilege. You have to earn it.

For me, personally, every one starts at zero. If I don't know you, I can neither respect or disrespect you. I'm not going to treat you special just because you have a certain trait- especially one related to gender, ethnicity, age, or creed. I will be courteous to you but that does not mean that I have to respect you.

I don't even know you so how could I respect you?

As someone said below, everyone is entitled to a basic level of respect. After that, it's a "you get what you give" kind of policy for me. If you don't respect me or anyone else, I'm not gonna respect you. But everyone is entitled to a simple basic level of respect.

Everyone deserves respect. Innocent until proven guilty, same concept. Respect everyone until they do something that shows you that they don't deserve it.

For example, your blog about fat girls and such was very rude but I still gave you minimal respect because I wrote it off as ignorance. But now, with this blog, I've realized that it's simply arrogance and therefore, I've lost any and all respect for you

On a basic basis, everyone should be respected. If they give you a reson not to respect them, don't. But when they don't give you reason to not respect them, respect should be a basic attitude when meeting anybody.

    Old people who are like

Respect your elders, you stupid teenagers

Sorry, but no. A lot of old people treat youngsters like shit and they expect us to respect them. Or the way old people seem to think that all teenagers are junkies, drunken dumbfucks or whatever. Yeah, like I'm going to respect someone who belittles me like that.
