Can No One Come Up With New Slashes? - Comments

May I put a thought across? Sometimes, some people write certain slash pairings because they may be the only one's that make sense in light of what they've experienced within the fandom. For example in the Simple Plan fandom, most people write Hot Baguettes [Pierre/David], though I have seen Pierre/Seb. I personally prefer Pietrick [Pierre/Patrick Langlois] though. But, Pierre/David is the most common, partially due to the HB interactions that we have actively seen happen on stage.

Or, say we talk about McDanno in Hawaii Five-0. That slash pairing is almost canon [not quite, but close]. So,it is sometimes understandable that certain slash pairings are repeated.

For me, as long as individual authors tackle it from fresh ways I don't mind. I'd read McDanno and Pietrick pairings all day. :) But, that's just me.

I agree, I believe the reason why Kellic is so popular because of damn fangirls who claim to like both ORB and SWS...just because of the songs King For a Day, If you can't Hang or Bulletproof Love... plus the plot line is always the same. School, teenage life, drugs and etc. I was actually writing a Kellic story, burg then I realized it was too overused and just... Blah... But I still love BOTH BANDS AND MEN! Btw, fangirls Kellin,and Vic aren't the ONLY ONES IN THEIR BANDS! Give respect to the others as we'll. Also same for Of Mice & Men Motionless in White, BVB AND OTHER BANDS!!!!! Ok... I'm done with my rant.... O.o

I do agree, most people are stuck on the popular pairings for slash stories. Unfortunately no one really writes anything else. I would love to see something else, especially with ptv slash stories. and @ronnirocketsaur I agree you really can't change everyones mind.

I mean, the popular ships are what they are, Kellic and Fuenciado being the "big fleets" of several shippers, but there's dashes of little ones in PTV. Personally, i'm all for the "changing up ships", like Quinnciado or Perriado in place of Kellic and Fuenciado. (And incest is sometimes a nice treat as well).
But hey, you can't change everyone's mind, no matter how hard you try.

It's quite common in a lot of fandoms, especially if one slash pairing presents themselves as canon. When I wrote Panic! at the Disco slash, almost everyone wrote Ryan/Brendon. Fall Out Boy is Pete/Patrick. Green Day was pretty evenly mixed, in my opinion. My Chem is Frerard, although I always preferred Frikey and Waycest myself.

All too common in fandoms, unfortunately.

I think it's got itself into this mess. People only write the same things because that seems to be all that's read. People will maybe go and read something original but as soon as they see a fanfic slash or anything else that has a character they are not familiar with in it, they're so much less likely to read it. I've written some different pairings and they're not popular because they're not common.

I looked up some Black Butler fanfic, and it was all pairups. I probably might read one....but I just like to read fanfics that are the own persons twists and ideas on the plot themselves.

Yeah, the majority are because people use the same people all the time and can't seem to think of new ones.

I just want new slash, I don't usually read Fanfics but a lot of them are slash, and a lot of them are with the same people. So I don't really feel like reading any of it because it's very repetitive.
