I think that approach is a great approach to almost anything. People should respect other people's opinions which is why I try not to get into too many debates, I don't believe that any opinion is right or wrong. I believe that opinions can be agreeable, disagreeable, and neutral and then within that you have your 'morally right and wrong' which is again just another level of an opinion.

Even though I know you're using you general, I do hope that I've never came off as completely totally offensive. v.v I worry a lot about that. I do believe that certain behavior in discussions is inappropriate, like if you (general use) are seeking for debates then you should have an open mind and not just the cold attitude that everyone is wrong and if they can't see that then they just are either too hard headed or dumb. Shifty Which I haven't seen you do, just you know, saying it.

Oh, yeah, I'm seeing the journals and all and I guess we're all convinced that our opinion is the right one to have (on any subject, for that matter) so we want everyone to have it and that's when we get too engaged when people don't share them with us, so it becomes more of a "You're wrong and I'm not" type of deal as opposed to just a sharing of opinions or being, you know, civilized lmfao

However, there needs to be a line, you know? Like the one I drew where you (general you; I hate using you in statements because it seems like I'm accusing you of something XD) can say that you don't think certain attitude/behavior is appropriate, but if you say something that is plain ol' bashing ("I think so and so group are disgusting" an example) then that's taking it too far. Like on the general site's rules, you can say "I don't like this artist's attitude nor his singing" but you can't say "I think this artist is a bitch and his singing sucks." Sure, people are bound to find any of those offensive, but at least you were polite XD

    I'm a counselor in training and as part of our training we need to take ethic courses and a class called counseling diverse and multicultural populations because we're gonna be giving therapy to a lot of different types of people;
one of the major things that they teach us in my profession is to respect any opinion and belief, even if it does not goes well with your own personal beliefs. I might not agree with them, but everybody has the right to their own opinion. I really like this approach because it gives you a sensitivity training that helps you detach from your feelings and use a more cold-headed and objective approach to anything. I wish this was the approach all people had to sensitive topics XD

I get the reason why, it's just that it seems absurd. You know? Like, "You can't judge people for who they have sex with or how many." Okay, I know that, and I don't. However, no one takes into consideration that I should not be judged for my opinions on a topic.

And what's going on ARE opinions with a lot of people basically saying, "If you have this opinion you are wrong and are a bad person." My opinions are my own, if they're offensive I'm sorry but more than likely I didn't express them to offend anyone and therefor should not have someone jumping down my throat with how wrong I am.

If I offend anyone ever that person should come to me calmly and explain to me why they are offended. If they come at me with hostility, or passive aggressiveness (which is what I've been seeing more of) it isn't going to make me realize, "oh, what I said hurt this person." It's going to aggravate me and I'm more than likely going to be turned away from their side of the story.

Trying to stay vague is hard, sorry. :< I don't want to use specifics.

Though what I find funniest is people going, "mind your own business" but they won't mind theirs when I want to talk about my opinion. :< If that makes sense. Think Embarassed

I think the issue (and I'm not 100% sure here, but I'm just throwing in my two cents) was that people were making blanket statements that offended a particular group of people.

Like, it's not okay if you state your opinion in a manner that seems like you are bashing someone or insulting them ("I think girls who have sex before marriage/dress a certain way are sluts."), but you can state it in a polite manner that does not sound like bashing/insulting ("I think sex before marriage is immoral"). Yes, you have pretty much just sugar-coated a statement that might (and probably will) affect someone even if it's not directed at them, but at least is not bashing XD so that's why the whole debate started (I think?).

Also, on the taking it personal part, I think that if there are opposing viewpoints, there is bound to be people who will take it personal because it affects them one way or another, so, unfortunately, debates are not just respectful exchanges of opinions and facts, but there's also a subjective factor attached to the opposing opinions.

There used to be like huge fights on the Unpopular Opinions thread 'cause people would get upset/angry that you didn't like a particular artist XD so these "wars" have been going on since the beginning of Mibba with just anything.

ur wrong. Kidding xD I agree, but I do find it ironic that in order to write about how Mibba (users) were annoying for making all of these blogs, YOU had to make a blog about it as well. Many people have said similar things in regards to what has been going on. Just something I thought I'd point out. I love irony.

You can tell someone why you disagree with their opinion and then eventually agree to disagree, but you can't tell someone their opinion is wrong. State why you have your own opinion, then leave there. The world would be much more peaceful.
I wish there was a 'like' button on Mibba for that comment

Agreeing to disagree is one of the best things ever, and it would help with a lot of arguments.

    Lmao, I had to.

    @ breezes.
EXACTLY. It's as if you can't have a debate, or proper discussion, without trying to tell someone else that their -opinion- is wrong. Not like you're supposed to just discuss the opinions and not take them so personally like it's a personal attack.

RIGHT? It's like this crazy big circle. Like getting heated at someone and them saying 'well it's just my opinion'. Well, of course it is... that's what a discussion is, sharing opinions.
