I don't think that's true. At least in my case. I've gotten over it now, but it's still bothering me some. I've been on mibba for three and a half years, never been banned before, never done anything wrong, caused any problems, had any arguments with any staff or anything, and I get banned immediately for "bashing." Kurtni said bashing of bands, books, and other things are taken differently than bashing of other mibbians. I would never ever bash someone. I'm not that kind of person, and you can ask any of my friends on here.

I got banned for calling someone a douche. It was a youtube video of a guy two or three years ago calling my favorite band worse things than douche. That's something I'm passionate about and I could have said worse things, but I simply called him a douche. The blog that I had commented on had been originally taken down for being "bashing" towards the boy, and the user had not been banned. I commented my douche comment and got banned instantly? It bothers me that one, I've never done anything bad on this site, two, in my opinion, it was not severe at all and could have simply been ignored, and three, I got banned, and someone else didn't for "bashing" content.

And about the warning thing, I think you should reinstate warnings because I thought I had lost my mibba account when it wouldn't let me log in. I didn't know what was wrong, and I thought maybe mibba crashed or something because I had been getting weird bad gateway pages all night like usual nowadays. And sometimes, my e-mail doesn't always work. Now if you had banned someone for longer than I was banned, and they didn't get an e-mail, you just lost a member. And in my opinion, that's why warnings should be reinstated. At least one warning. I don't think it's okay to let people off the hook who actually deserve to be banned by giving them warnings, but if it's the first time they've ever done anything bad on the site and they're going to get banned and you have to consider the e-mail issues some people have, they should get a warning.

You're welcome. I was thinking of the old way they used to ban people.

    @ Audrey T
And thanks for clearing up how the new system works. :)

There's no scale of banning because each situation is different, but there are factors we take into account when deciding on a time period, like:

    -Severity of what was said/done
-If the user's been previously banned or warned for similar offenses
-the circumstances around whatever caused the confrontation

He wasn't being dishonest. I've just never seen him banned, and it was more than a day or week thing. Maybe- I am not sure if you all have already done this- you could post a blog or something about ban lengths and 'level' of crimes? I know it must be a blurred line with stuff like this. Every case is different and all, but I always worry I'll say something that could be considered ban-able, since my other friend was banned and I saw nothing wrong with what was said.

That user is being dishonest with you about the length of his current ban and his past ban history.

My friend, The Zac, got permanently banned and had never caused any problems before from what everyone who knows him is aware of? He made one blog that was considered 'offensive' and was banned. He was warned to stop and did stop in the comments, but was banned almost immediately after everything had settled down. I'd like to know why something like this is inconsistent. My other friend, as I had mentioned to you privately, said nothing wrong at all, and no, I'm not being biased- I could not detect a rude thing said unless it was done in a private messaged- he was banned without warning as well. Permanently. And I see people saying much worse who are still waltzing around. I agree with Mika on all of these inconsistencies...

Thank you for explaining. Will the warnings be coming back any time soon?
    No problem.

Not in the foreseeable future. It's been particularly bad lately and tends to get that way whenever we try to let up, so I think it's here to stay.

We used to do warnings, but unfortunately that wasn't working and it wasn't being fair to users who were being attacked and called hurtful things (like idiots, assholes and even c*nts). Instead we'll be doing a full day ban for first offenses (as the warning) and our blog mods are consistently taking time to remind users of the rules so everyone's aware.

Thank you. That makes sense, and from what I'm hearing the system seems to be different now. I remember you used to be an admin, and warnings make sense. I don't believe anyone is getting them now.

I was responding to witch because she said that you do not get an explanation. I let admins know that this was up so they will be much better at talking to you about this situation. :)

When I was an admin, bashing of things (ie, a band or a book) was treated differently than bashing a Mibbian. We also kept track of who got warnings, so repeat offenders could be banned. I don't know if they still do that or not.

I am aware of that, but I do think what Starlight.Girl.Hina said about there being warnings should be reintroduced.

No, now it is an automatic ban with no warning and no explanation of why you're banned.

I've not heard of or seen that before...it's possible that they used to though. Perhaps they could reinstate that? Also, thank you for responding to this.
