That is silly. As far as I know, in the U.S. you have have as many names as you want, so I don't know why they wouldn't have used your full name.
When I change mine I won't have a middle name and when I get married I'll just move 'Ryan' into the middle name spot.
I don't know if it's just here in this area or in this university, but my diploma instead of saying my full name, it only had my first name and my dad's last name. That infuriated me because I love my mom's last name and I always include it everywhere, as well with my middle name.
