Wow that's really rude of people. :( there should be no compulsion in religion. Like God chooses who he wants to guide ( I don't know what religion people are shoving down your throat) but my belief is this. So it doesn't matter how forceful you are, no one will change unless God wants to change their heart. So that means that there is only purpose in being nice and logical about it if you want to explain religion. Pushing things just gets people upset and why would they want to be like someone pushy?
This is from the perspective that you are just standing there and someone just comes to shove a certain religion on you.

Just go with your heart and ask for guidance.
