Some long chapters are just long fluff and filler. As a teacher told me, ten pages of crap is still ten pages of crap. Besides, take the romance stories into consideration? Anything under six to eight thousand would be considered short by most publishers just because of typical chapter length in a romance. It just depends on if the writer can do it.

I personally like short chapters, they're easier for me to take in. I get overwhelmed reading long chapters, especially if the font is difficult for me to read.

I try not to write short chapters, but then again, what is the definition of short? I once saw someone complaining that a 3000 word chapter was short, o_o I try to at least push myself over 1000, but sometime's I just can't. I do it, but then I read it and realise everything i've written is complete nonsense, so I backspace it to what I think sounds good. For me it's the quality, not quantity.

Less than 500 words is too short for me, I'm pretty content with reading 750-1500+ word chapters. When I write I aim for 1,000 words per chapter. Mr. Green

I write anywhere between 700 to 2000 words for my chapters, and on one story my chapters barely reach 500 words. I think it depends on the content the chapter contains and what the reader is trying to relay. I don't like uber-short chapters that are less than 300 when every other chapter is at least 1000 words, and vice versa. As long as it makes sense, and fits the story, go ahead and write short chapters.

Some people don't have the attention span or know how to make super long chapters that don't drag on forever.

Personally though, I rarely read anything that has over 2500 words per chapter. No, sorry, way too long. I want short little snappy things I can read in five minutes when I'm going somewhere. Shifty
