The church /has/ done some things to fix the problem, like there's new regulations that under no circumstances are you to be left alone with a priest, ever. I think it's been under affect for a few months now. Also, a priest in the family was found to be molesting a girl in his parish, and he is not allowed to perform masses or anything at any parish, ever.

I'm not trying to defend anyone here I'm just saying, they've taken action. Definitely not enough but there's only so much that you can do, unfortunately.

I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm raised in a strict religious family that goes to church, while I just stay at home ._.

I also believe Gay Marriage shouldn't be banned. It only makes sense to let persons marry persons as they find certain qualities in them drawing them closer. I condone to gay marriage, and I don't get why others shouldn't based on what "This guy put in the Bible."

    @ gothique4
I find it repulsive, as I have read articles and whatnot about priests and priestesses doing such things to younger people of the same age, and the churches act like it never happened.

ah, yes c: my math teacher (first hour, when we all say the pledge) asks me almost every day why I never recite the pledge, or don't say it fully. i always respond, "it's none of your business." but she still feels the need to ask .-. There will probably never be justice for all, considering all the homophobic assholes and the Congress banning such activities.

I agree completely. Hence why I don't say the pledge either. "For liberty and justice for all." Is the line of reference, because the country doesn't have justice for everyone. So I feel I shouldn't say the pledge until there is.

I couldn't agree more, and I find it extremely hypocritical of any religions, but mostly the Catholic religion for denouncing homosexuality in general and not just gay marriage. It seems like every day I'm opening up the paper and reading another story about a pedophile priest. These priests are targeting young boys which in my eyes makes them homosexual and the church just covers it up like it's nothing.

I have quite a few gay and lesbian friends and they're happy and in love, and who are we to say that they can't get married?

"under God" wasn't even originally in the Pledge of Allegiance. At one point in time, it wasn't even in there.

You see, the problem I have with legalizing gay marriage is that it should already be legal. The only reason it's not is because homophobic people, that lack a good reason to be homophobic, feel that it's wrong due to their religion. By banning gay marriage, which is what most states are leaning toward - even my state -, it basically contradicts the free exercise and establishment clause. Any religious beliefs should hold no part in the legalization of gay marriage.

Like independence said, using God as an excuse to be an asshole is pointless.
God is love, so where there is love, there must be God. I dunno, that's my take on it. I come from a religious background and I'm bisexual, I refuse to believe that He is going to send me to Hell if I happen to fall in love with a girl someday.

I think homophobia is stupid, really. But the "Under God" part of the Pledge was written during the red scare when people thought communism would take over in the US. But even then the people who use Christianity as an excuse to be homophobic are really ridiculous.
