    Yeah, I don't read fan-fics at all. And you're write that covers about 98% of the stories on mibba.

    I see A LOT of stories on here, and where there are certainly some overlaps, I find a lot of really interesting, original stories.

    I think it just depends what you look for; if you know what you want and seek that out, then you're definitely going to find it. But romances are popular, so it makes sense that the story section appears to be saturated with them.

    I mean, I feel like I walk into the young adult section and B&N and there's the same story, just with a different cover and different names. Just gotta do some diggin' (:

    I write exclusively original science fiction...
    I don't think that's romance at all.

    Yeah, I'm the same way haha

    @paper sirens
    :) thankkyoouuu

    @Vicious Vengeance
    That's exactly the type of thing that I'm talking about! It's all good if it's written realistically, but if it's not, then I get kinda irritated. I mean, it's okay if they write about that kind of thing because it's their fantasy or whatever, but why not put a little more effort into it if they're gonna post it on Mibba?

    @lullabies
    I get what you mean, about depression being so common and all. Trust me, I know. My father had it in high school and my mom has a minor case. I don't have any problem with well written stories about it, but some of them kind of even glorify self harm and things like that. Those really tick me off.

    @Antidote.
    I guess it's just taste, haha. And yeah, I agree with the the realistic depression thing. :)

    @ptvjaime
    Thanks for the suggestions, I really appreciate it. I know about the Original tab, but that's not really the problem. I read some fanfics, ones that draw me in. It's just the fact that a lot of them are about the same thing!

    As far as I've been able to tell, most of Mibba's bandfiction serves more as fantasy fulfillment for the author and I have no problem with that. Depression crops up in those stories not only because a lot of people actually suffer from it but because a large amount of the band guys have suffered from it and a lot of lyrics are about that. I write about issues because I want to understand them a bit better. If you want more original content, I'd suggest going over to FictionPress to read. Mibba has never not been mostly fanfiction and it'll stay that way. Or you can always just click the Original tab under the Stories tab and filter out depression and self-harm.

    All those cliches you noted, I feel aren't that prominent here as much! It might be my fanbases but I find such original and interesting plot lines so easily nowadays! Maybe it's just me.

    But I agree with lullabies. Depression isn't just a plot line in a story, but also a real problem in life. I'm not picky, but as long as someone does it right or realistic, I have no problems with it in stories!

    All of my stories on here are original, and I hate the whole romance genre in stories. It's never realistic. I write anything but that.

    I agree that it would be good to see more more original content, but a lot of people can relate to the depressed stuff, if they are depressed themselves, which is why people write stories like that. Depression isn't some foreign illness nobody knows about. 14.8 million Americans suffer with depression, which is why it's so common in stories, and it's not a bad thing. It can get old, but it's real life. I understand if it's written poorly, but if it's well-written, there's nothing wrong with it, in my opinion.

    I don't have problems with fanfics and romance because I read and write them. But I agree with you about the depressed characters part. I tend not to read when there was even the slight mention of depression. Even more when it's not written realistically. Like, one moment the girl was all depressed and wanted to kill herself. And then she met the boy and in a few seconds, her life was full of rainbows and stuff. No, don't do that. Thumb down

    And what I don't like to see in fanfics is the story where the guys just take a random girl (usually age between 15-17) and take her on tour with them. And then all of the band members fall in love with her. Come on! Ranting

    I haven't really come across that problem with OF but I do tend to stay away from writers writing that kind of thing and I write about horror and stuff so I just don't see it.
