I don't know. Maybe they just don't think of it. I can't even write any form of my name for a character because I feel like it is a self-insert which I dislike most of the time. I have the same problem when I see that. XD

Jesus, I've neeeever even seen my name in a story! Which is weird, maybe people just don't like my name? Haha. But I sort of feel weird when the protagonist's name is the same as the author's name.. I just can't stop thinking about the character actually being the author, and it takes away from the story for me! Haha.

Curiooooys, what IS your name? haha

Sometimes, what I do is go to a random name generator, put in what kind of name I want (i.e. German, Dutch, Greek) and go from there. I usually pick a name that seems to fit the character and that sounds good in my head and with the surname I picked.

But yeah, I understand what you mean with not using the same name over again. It does get confusing if you do use the same name again. XD Well, I haven't really thought of that, but that could work. ^_^

I hate my characters having the same names so I try to find different ones for each of my stories since it can get confusing. I also try to have names starting with different letters so I don't end up with loads of names being with like A or anything.

Well, maybe you won't have this problem. :) That's a good way to pick names.

I don't think I've had that problem yet. But when it comes to naming characters for my stories... I do spend a bit of time looking through baby name websites and what names were popular in certain years.

Well....I don't know what to say to that. Maybe it is just the first name that pops into the author's head when creating that character.

    @ kitsch
Yeah. XD Like I said not super common, but common enough. But then again, when I was born it was something like the most popular name in the US. So it has gone down from there. Cute

Yes, they are. I like that because it basically tells me that the author thought about the name and didn't randomly give it to the character just for fun.

"Natalie" was the 21st most popular baby name of the 2000s according to the US Social Security website. Shifty

More unique names are nice though, especially when the character's name symbolizes something related
    to the story.

I never really see my name used in stories but when I do it's usually the name of some cliche bitchy popular high school girl Rolling Eyes

Well my name isn't super common, but it is common enough. I do as well. Sometimes I really like the weird names just so I don't think of them as a friend, family member, or me. XD

Oh my gosh YES. My real name is Elizabeth so whenever I stumbled upon a story with the name in it, especially when they use Liz because that's what I most often go by, I'm like OMG NO! what is THIS?!

I haven't had that problem before (yay for not super common names!) but I always wondered. . .
Because when I read a story with the name of family or friends, I get a little weirded out.
