I thought I'd just warn you that depending on my mood I may be sending quite a few links to anime related stories that break rules Unsure

I hope it helps people! :D I love seeing how much I've improved from my very first stories to my latest ones lmfao I can't be the only one to feel like that though Shifty

    Haha! I could. Wink

Yeah, hopefully it makes a difference to the quality of writing and maybe it'll help someone out at some point too! Excellent, and just let me know if you find anything on your lurking. Lurking in the story section is my favourite pastime. Shifty

You could always edit the it out and it'll be our little secret that you told me Wink

It was a good system! But this system sounds good as well! :) And of course I'll lurk around, going about reading stories and possible stumbling over some ones that need reporting Shifty

Essentially, we just report the stories and the admins let the people know they need to edit the stories. It's like a manual version of the old system. I don't know if I'm supposed to say that but I don't think it's a massive secret. Shifty

I think it's how most of the oldies on here learned, if I'm being honest. It was such a good system and it makes me so sad that it isn't in place any longer. No

It isn't snitching. Think of it as cleaning up the site. tehe

How does the new system work exactly? If I'm allowed to know Shifty

That's actually how I learnt to correctly format my stories and such, having some of my first stories taken down and told how to correct them tehe

And I'd love to PM you links to stories, I feel like a total snitch but eh lmfao

That could work, actually. I just didn't like the idea of the stories disappearing into cyberspace and being lost to the ages. tehe I vaguely remember the old reporting system being the same sort of thing -- your story was temporarily removed from public view if it had excessive spelling / grammar errors or if it didn't follow the rules. Once you fixed it (I think, this was a while ago now) it was added back into the site's stories. I learned a lot about dialogue grammar from a story editor when I first started on here almost 5 years ago now through that system. I kind of wish we still had that system, I definitely think it worked. But the new system seems to be making small improvements already, so we'll see where that leads! XD

(Oh, and if you're ever looking for someone to message about stories who won't mind - although I don't think any of us mind, really - I'm pretty much always on and reporting stuff gives me things to do so I wouldn't mind if you ever wanted to send me through any stories that break the rules. Cute)

True, I hadn't thought of people plagiarising older stories and such, to be honest I think you've made a valid point. Cute

I guess I just assumed that if chapters are taken down one at a time and give back to the author via PM then the story itself would just become invisible to everyone until the author reposted the content correctly. Think

    @ snow.angel
I could find a story editor who wouldn't get annoyed at me sending them links to stories that are breaking rules XD I'll do that, I may not be responsible but I'd love to help with Mibba in any way I can.

I like the thought if being a story editor because I enjoy proofreading people's work and giving them concrit Think Thanks for clearing this up though! :)

    @ dyke
Sorry if I didn't clarify myself properly, I only meant taking down stories that break the Mibba rules, as long as old stories have proper spelling and good grammar I'm happy with them staying, naturally! :) I just meant stories that have been typed out where every second word is misspelt or written like text code, if that makes sense.

    @ house of cards.
That's good to know that their have been reporting changes! And I didn't mean to pull the stories off and have them gone forever, that is a bit mean, maybe messaging first would be a good idea but the author may not be on Mibba anymore, maybe after a certain amount of time after the first message as gone through and if there still isn't a reply then take the chapter/s down and send them through PM so that they'll have their chapters in their PM's for them to correct and put back up. I'd say if anything that I'm the one being overly harsh. Unsure

    @ ptvjaime
Of course not well written stories! No, I'm talking strictly about stories that have text typing and next to no grammar in them. Shifty

    @ HopelessHaures
That's the thing though, there's a difference between trying to work on grammar and spelling and then having a story that's been up on Mibba for a good few years and not having fixed it so that it's following the rules.

Also this may sound so stupid but, certainly it would lighten the site up a bit. To like get rid of these really old stories that are no longer updated and the author has left the site. I think that may a reason why the site has crashed the times that it has. There is a lot of stuff posted here. I hope I didn't offend anyone with that, it just seems like common knowledge to me. I don't even know if that makes sense but, it's an idea. Haha
So not stupid! I was actually thinking the same thing when I wrote this blog but I forgot to add it in, I think it would lighten up the site and it'd make it easier to sort through stories as well!. I've been sifting through fanfics and I often stumble across old ones that don't follow the rules because the rules weren't a major deal back then. Sad

I actually 100% completely disagree with this.

As much as I would like the site to look neater, and I would love to see all stories on the site properly formatted with flawless spelling and grammar, I actually discourage people from taking their works down - for copyright purposes.

No matter how terribly you think a story might be written, there is always a chance it will be plagiarised. It happened to my three earliest fan fictions, and I was floored - they had no plot, the spelling and grammar were terrible, and I just couldn't understand why anybody would want to steal them. But it happened. And had I not still had them up in their original place, with my original post date, I would not have been able to prove that they were mine!

My first story was written when I was thirteen. I'm now pushing twenty-four, and I still have it posted in its original place.

So, granted permission or not, I would never remove somebody's story. God forbid they need it in future and don't have access to it!

But as house of cards. and snow.angel said, story editors are now able to report stories that have formatting, spelling and grammatical issues - so go ahead and send any through if you find them. =)

As house of cards. mentioned, we recently made an addition to our story reporting system and now we are able to effectively deal with the stories that have poor spelling/grammar/formatting. Since you're not on the editing staff team, you don't have a responsibility to report stories, but there's no reason why you can't PM a story editor with stories you find that are breaking the site rules so they can report and deal with it Cute (Or, of course, wait until we're looking for more story editors and apply)

I really enjoy some old stories that aren't finished and haven't been updated, to be honest they're some of my favorites. I'd hate to see them gone.

There have actually been recent changes to the reporting of stories that now allow us to flag up stories that don't follow Mibba's formatting or basic grammar / spelling rules. Any stories the editors see are being sorted out to the best of our (and more to a point, the admin) abilities.

I don't know if I'd agree with older stories being pulled without giving the author a chance first though. I know myself that I'd feel awful if I wasn't on the site anymore and then had my stuff removed. I'd honestly rather speak to the user first, rather than just getting rid of the stuff. They might want to come back at some point and get it, this might be the only place where their work is stored. I'd definitely not want people to lose work that way. No matter how bad the grammar, I think everyone is entitled to have their work kept safe. I know that I have old stuff sitting on my laptop that I constantly mean to go back and change, but never had the chance to. Granted, it isn't on here any more but I know I'd be furious if it was, and it was the only place I had TNT saved to, to then find out that when I want to go back and work on it it's been removed from the site.

That's just my two cents though. Maybe I'm being too nice, who knows.

If the story has poor spelling and grammar, by all means pull it. But never pull unfinished stories that are well-written. There are still very enjoyable moments in some of those old stories and I'd rather keep them here than get rid of them.

I completely get what you're saying here. I've read some stories that haven't been updated in over a year and it frustrates me because here I am, and it will never get updated. Ha But also about the grammar and spelling, I'm sometimes horrible with grammar (probably most of the time) but I try my best to work on it. But, there are some stories that are older that I can barely read, I love the idea behind them but I simply can't read it because it confuses me.

Also this may sound so stupid but, certainly it would lighten the site up a bit. To like get rid of these really old stories that are no longer updated and the author has left the site.
