Maybe one of the admins needs to bring it to the staff's attention and mention that using Bristish English isn't incorrect, it's just a different way of spelling some words. I would've hoped that if you're on the editing staff for any section of the blog, you would know that, but hey, maybe some of them don't.

And yeah, should it happen again that my blog titles are changed or anything and I'm not notified, I'll definitely message someone about it. Smile

I've been corrected on it before in several PMs. Let's just say I turn into megabitch whenever it happens because it isn't wrong and I think it's pretty ignorant to say it's wrong. Even ask if it's a typo or a Britishism / Americanism. I know I do if I have an issue, but I do know most Americanisms anyway so yeah.

Oh, definitely message if it happens again. As far as I was aware, we're all supposed to send out messages when we edit stuff, just because it is common courtesy to do so.

    @ WASSUP.
Exactly, it isn't unbearable. I know most countries (including Singapore, I think) use American English but the differences aren't vast. We just use s instead of z and they remove u from words that u shouldn't be removed from. Snob tehe

man if i get corrected again on it i'm just gonna Hand my way through it.

if you don't get told again definitely bring it to someone's attention. maybe the mod thought that it wasn't really anything to tell you about because it was small? either way, it's not right to just change stuff without notifying the user.

    @ house of cards.
and at the end of the day it's english and people who use american english or singaporean english or whatever type of english they use can still read it and tolerate that extra u, because i ain't gonna change my language for them Hand

100% agree about the British English thing. I would be very annoyed if I was "corrected" because of that and it would definitely be difficult for me to respond nicely. And yes, British English is the original version, so to be corrected on that would just be ignorant.

It's kind of irritating that I didn't get a message about it. Like I said, I don't want to cause a fuss over it, but if it happens again, I will message someone on staff and ask about it. I can't see it being any different to the rules you have to follow of sending someone a msg when you change something, no matter how minor it is. It just seems like a basic courtesy, to me.

You shouldn't ever be told to change your spelling from British English to American English, that's just silly. Was British English not the original version anyway? I'd assume it was, considering it's English and...well, is it not from England? I'd go mental if someone tried to tell me my spelling was bad because of that.

    @ Damsel Of Darkness
I had that happen to me, which I thought was weird because whenever I change a story title, I have to message the user and let them know so that they don't get that confusion when they come on and it's capitalised.

It's honestly not the first time I've heard of someone being corrected for using British English spelling and I know if I get a message from anyone about that, I'll probably be quite annoyed. But hopefully it never happens and you're never corrected again, either. Since well, it isn't incorrect to begin with.

Yeah, I don't know either. But if it happens again and I'm still not sent a message, I will probably bring it to someones attention and make a complaint. I don't see how going in a changing stuff helps anyone learn, even if they're sent a message letting them know. It's no different to staff not actively editing people's stories when there's a problem because they feel that won't help the user learn. By doing that, it seems to me like maybe it's more about the apperance of the blog section, rather than guiding people to use correct grammar and capitalisation.

i say poor dujo because i personally think he didn't intend for mibba to end up so divided over so many things. like, every time he does appear, it seems he has to deal with one shitstorm or another.

    @ Join the Masquerade
yeah, that's probably the only questionable thing that's happened to me, but it happened once or twice and that's it. i've never had a problem with it since.

and yeah. i don't think the rules have changed much, i just think they're enforcing it a bit more than before.

    @ Damsel Of Darkness
i haven't heard from the user since that, and i'm pretty sure it was them just being ignorant and using my spelling against me because i was very forward about an opinion of mine Facepalm but yeah, i only use american english when i'm writing a story that's based in america, and that's pretty close to never.

i don't know what's happened with that, because every time i've had a blog title changed, someone's messaged me Think but yeah, i don't think just going in and changing it for people will help them learn.

Like Join the Masquerade, I'm a little bit perturbed by the fact you were told you were using incorrect spelling for using British English instead of American English. Personally, I use British English in my blogs because that's what I was taught and what I know, but American English with my stories (because the characters are American, so it just makes sense to use American English in my story writing) and I dunno, it just seems kind of ignorant to say your spelling was incorrect because it wasn't the way American's spell things. I hope you pointed out that it wasn't incorrect and just a different way of spelling those words.

As for the blog thing... well, personally I don't like that blog mods and what not can change my titles without my knowledge and/or say so. I have just tonight realised that one of my blog titles was corrected, but I was never sent a message about it or anything. It just feels a bit weird, to know someone went and changed something of mine without my knowledge and permission. I'm not gonna make a fuss about it, but I will admit that when I realised, it bothered me. I don't mind that I was corrected, that's whatever, but I just don't like it was done for me. I don't see how that's going to help me learn, since it's just by chance that I even noticed because in my profile feed the title still reads as I posted it, but when I go to the blog itself, it's changed.

It might seem petty, but yeah, honestly that bothered me.

Whoa hold up. You were asked to change your spelling from British English to Amercan English? I can't begin to describe how wrong that is...

But apart from that, I'm totally with you. I don't see how this is a big deal because it's not hurting anyone and hey, if you didn't like the site rules then why did you join to begin with?

I don't understand why poor Dujo? As far as I've seen, the only issues users have with him is his continued mysterious absence while the site continues to break down and have problems. He definitely isn't a part of this little crackdown.
