Yeah it's just there's this stigma going around that people who work at McDonald's are morons. Which is totally not true. I mean some people just apply there because they don't drug test or care about education but some people work their butts off. It IS a tough job. If you work in the kitchen and your location is a normally busy one, you gotta get that food out quick or everyone gets angry.
I watch a lot of cooking shows and what not and I can tell I wouldn't want to work as an executive chef or line cook. I'd have constant stress to be fast enough. I want to work in a bakery too. I'd love to be a pastry chef omg. But yeah.....I've worked at McD for five years and it's been just $500 a month I bring in but they work with my schedule and it's a dependable job. Sadly in my town they offer culinary school but there's not much point in me going cause we don't have five star restaurants. I can't move cities cause my life is here so basically I'd go to school just to end up getting a job at Red Lobster lol....
It really is and I know that. I have a friend who worked there for years and he's a hardworking person. He does a lot of video games (his passion) and he really sets his mind to things and he's smart. I mean, there are those lazy, stupid people everywhere.
My school does a lot to teach you how to open your own place, as well. PLus, you could always look in neighboring towns. A lot of chefs commute. One of the teachers we have works here in Hartford, Connecticut, but she drives from Rhode Island everyday, to and from. It's crazy, took us an hour to get to her exit (we had a competition in Providence.) Or you could go for baking and pastry, which a Pastry chef has some stress, depending on the dessert menu at certain restaurants, but it's still a fun job.
