Reader Confusion. - Comments

Oh i can understand that one for sure.
I guess its because I really want to be a writer in reality and I really want people to like my stuff.
I have tried original fictions and I can see what you mean about them not being as popular.

  • Well....this might sound kind of....discouraging but...it really all comes down to what kind of story or fandom you're in or writing. Original Fiction doesn't get as many readers as say people who write Fan Fiction about Avenged Sevenfold or like One Direction. It sucks but that's how it seems to be. Just don't ever sell out and write characters or for fandoms that aren't true to you. If you're not enjoying what you write just to gain readers, you'll be disappointed.

I write for Avenged Sevenfold fandom but sometimes I wish I could just write Original Fiction and have it get as many views and feedback but sadly, it's not the case.

  • Thank you both for the advice, I will take that into consideration and do you have any advice on how to gain more readers?

  • I have that decline too!
Usually the first chapter's reader count will be the highest because they're all pressing on it to try it out, and it might not be their type of their story so they click out. Not a big thing; everyone has their own cup of tea!

Also maybe readers have subscribed and haven't come back to reading the updates yet, so don't worry about it too much. Especially since April/May is a super busy time in terms of exams and projects. OuO I'm sure that's how the general pattern is though for all stories? I'm sure your writing is great, and it's not because of your story!

  • This happens to some of us. It may not have anything to do with your writing. I've had stories that had like 500 overall reads but each individual chapter declines in readers at times. Some people miss the update notifications when your story is updated or they could just be busy with school, work or life and haven't had the chance to read the update yet. A few declining numbers are average and normal here on this site but if the readers start falling off on your story in mass amounts, it could be because the readers didn't like the direction the story took or something. Don't get discouraged though. People are picky and some people just have a hard time concentrating on a chapter long enough to finish it or continue reading.
