I sooo feel you. My mind set is, if I am going to take the time to read a story, then I always take time to comment it. Maybe not at the moment because I like to read almost all of the story first if it's a huge chaptered story before I comment. Sometimes I get busy and can only read snippets of the chapters but I always go back and comment!

Honestly, I enjoy telling the author what I liked in their updates because I as a writer enjoy receiving that feedback also.

Yeah. You all made good points! I know some people who have wanted constructive criticism in the past have gotten it from someone but the person commenting went way over the line and presented the critique in a rude way. Sadly there are those people out there but you just have to ignore that type of thing. However, for example.....along time ago when I wrote stories, I thought they were great because everyone who commented, only gave me praise. They didn't point out that I had poor sentence form or that I switched tenses so when I went to a Beta reader just to see how "correct" I thought my work was, I got kicked down several notches and had all these mistakes and technical errors!

It really was a shock to me because here I was being told on a daily basis that my stories were so great and perfect yadda yadda, But honestly, the people who were HONEST with me and told me what wasn't correct in my stories and how to fix it, those people have helped me grow and improve so much as a writer. For the most part now, my latest stories have better sentence form, better flow and proper grammar and punctuation. I also now know how to stay in ONE tense. That's why when people read my stories, I WANT them to tell me what's wrong and I'll accept that happily as long as the way they present their points are civil and not rude.

To me is seems that people do really want criticism, but in their mind they don't really expect to get it. A lot of writers, I've noticed say that they aren't good or they feel that an update or whatever could be better, but in truth they don't really think that. So when they get 'bad' criticism they don't know how to react because they think their work is good as is...if that makes any sense. It sounded a lot better in my head, sorry.

So far I've had a lot of people offer to help me out when I needed it - in blogs and in the forums section - and I've even gotten a few comments on my stories, so I've got no complaints there. XD

Since I started here, I try to comment on blogs as much as I can, and I think I've commented on every story I've read so far, though that's only been a handful. It just makes sense to me, I guess, because I want to be a part of a site where I feel comfortable talking and making friends.

If you ever want to drop some truth in a story comment, you can read my stories. Naughty I promise I'll graciously accept it.

It is a double-edged sword, with people begging for comments, but not being happy that someone's trying to help them as a writer. I absolutely adore constructive criticism, because it makes me conscious of things that don't flow and allows for me to grow. I take the advice given to me, laugh about how silly I was, and then continue on trying to make my writing better than it was.

I'm glad to say that I mean it when I say I can deal with, and encourage criticism. In the real world of writing, someone is going to totally bash and berate your work somewhere along the way. If you can't take some constructive crit on a creative writing website, then you probably shouldn't be on said creative writing website.

I'm just glad no-one has ever been offended by me pointing out little errors, mostly people tend to ignore comments they don't agree with or aren't 100% supportive. In my experience, at least.

It's like a double edged knife I think.

They want a critique, but then they don't.

They want you to tell them your honest opinion, but then again they don't wanna hear about their mistakes.

I agree, people are confusing Coffee
