Oh definitely! Our first concert was together. Really, we've been friends for ages. She moved away when we were kids and like six years later we moved in next door. Such a massive coincidence. (I didn't know for like two weeks, she was holed up in her room blaring Black Sabbath and I caught a glimpse of her leaving for school xD)

My Dad doesn't care. He got stabbed once and just carried on. Like a frigging two inch deep wound and he still pulled this guy off this girl. He also has roofied a lot of guys. Where they've gone to roofie girls and he's seen he'll switch their drinks around and then ask the girl over and be like "he just roofied your drink". Two out of three times they'e kicked the guy in the gonads.

Even better. This is going to sound really weird (since it's typed out) but going with someone to their first time for things is the best. Tongue (Yep, definitely sounded very weird.) Idk, I like observing people who experience something firsthand and I've already been there and their reaction is just gold.

Oh man, that's awful. My auntie was a bouncer actually and she had a bunch of crazy stories too---thankfully it didn't get that far for her Shocked but she would just have to make sure people didn't just fall flat on their faces on the dance floor in addition to breaking up (girl Shifty) fights. Your dad must be a real tank to have been in those situations and still emerge strong afterward.

She really wanted to go so me and like four other friends chipped in. Spread the cost pretty evenly. It'll be her first ever con so.

Exactly like, my Dad's actually a bouncer and he's been knifed a few times breaking up bar fights. It's more risky for the security guards rather than the actual con goers, in my opinion. People tend to start trouble with security for the hell of it.

I hope you get to go.

That's a really awesome gift though; the tickets for those things are pricey imo.

Yeah, they're risking their safety to keep others safe. People that are strangers to them. Sure, they get paid to do it but the risk is even higher for them if they have to break up fights or act as a human shield.

Maybe. Definitely still discussing it with my dad.
Aha I've only been to one gig. CamCon was meant to be a birthday present for a mate.
It pisses me off like yea sorry they're trying to protect you?

As long as you get to go, yeah?

I hope not; people have loose lips for these events. Coffee I'm not a "con"goer, more of a concert person so I have no idea about what actually goes on. But I'm not surprised. XD

Yeah, so when people complain about security doing their jobs it makes me go "wait wha---?" because what do they expect, really?

Definitely. I might go up to it and say hi to a couple of Spidey cosplayers but I'm not going to stay.

The thing with the volunteers is they wouldn't know the serious things. There is the thing with the line but you get that anyway. Some people do bribe security so *le shrug*

More security means less chance of bad things happening.

Definitely. Spending more for security means they could lessen their chance of those incidents and in turn, less chance of the organizers or venue owners being sued because of liabilities.

And also there could be volunteers being bribed by people to have perks like cutting in the line, access to information that should not be public knowledge (e.g. if they know where a certain person will be before the information is released by the venue in an official schedule / statement), etcetera. Probably other things but my mind is fuzzy since it's late.

Yeah, that's a bummer; I have friends that go to cons and cosplay so they plan their costumes months ahead of time and if they can't go it's a lot of money wasted. Sure, they can use it again but not for the event they wanted to initially go to which was the point of it all.

That is the issue and I hope that this incident means that there will be more security staff present. Even if the group get volunteers (I mean, it's risky but they should be able to background check the volunteers and decline anyone that sends up alarm flags). I would love to volunteer at some of these things; the only issue there is then you may get people volunteering just to go.

But it is a big risk; same with concerts and things like that and there are things like this that ruin things for people. I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed to go to CamCon now which really sucks because I've already spent £32.00 on blue eye contacts.

I think that's one of my concerns about events like Comic Con and Vid Con. There just is such a large amount of people that attend the events, which means the chances of scandals (such as the whole Vid Con YTers and underage fans controversy) that mean harm upon those who attend them. Everyone needs to attend these events with caution and hopefully with a group of supporting, responsible friends / parents if they're underage.

It just really is a big issue and shouldn't be taken lightly. At any public event / venue where many people will attend always has safety risks. There just isn't enough security to keep an eye on every single person.
