I think you become a true writer when you believe in yourself, when the words you have written are so compelling that even you get yourself caught up in them. I always picture writing like telling a good lie; you know you are a good liar when you can convince yourself that your lie is the truth, and I find it is the same with writing. You know you are a good writer when you fall into your own words and they consume you, sometimes with glory and grace.

I'm not really scared of rejection. With the type of stuff I write, I'm more afraid of them thinking I'm crazy. It's not quite wholesome material.

It might've been middle school teachers that do it. I know some of my teachers had me write poems and stuff when i was a kid.

Everyone first becomes a writer when your elementary school teacher tells you to write a short story (in their eyes a short story is one of those page long one shots) or a poem to try out that new poem technique (haiku,, rhyming, acrostic, etc). But you become a true writer when you practice the story telling and poetry writing techniques on your own, whether you show them to someone else or publish them online or not. You become a writer when you see an event in your favorite show or movie or book and you ask a question about a "what-if" situation, what if Neville became The Boy Who Lived?? What if Frodo was a girl? A writer is someone who explores the questions and ideas in their minds. c:
