    1. Do you like your name? Yes.
    2. If you could change it, would you? I've thought about it, but I don't think I actually would.
    3. What would you change it to? I've always liked the name Natasha, if we're being honest here. ^-^
    4. Any advice about getting family to call you something else? I've always wanted people to call me Mallory, instead of just Mal or Mally... Especially not Mal!! But people still do out of habit. I also went through a phase of wanting to be called Missy... That didn't work either xP

    @ sheepcat;
That's too bad that your family get that upset. I remember when I graduated HS it only had my first name on the paper thing, and my grandmother was quite upset because all my life I'd been going by my first and part of my middle. I think my mom was a bit upset too, but I just didn't care. And thank you, I hope I can live up to the cool factor.

    @ fairyfeller
Thank you for the advice anyway. I remember your blog post about this. Good luck!

Blake is a really cool name!

    1. I like my name, it's quite nice. But I still want to change it (and probably will).
2+3. I want to change it to Havelock (which is the name of a character from my favourite book series.) I'm also thinking of changing my middle name.
    4. Maybe talking to them and explaining why you want to change your name. (I don't really have any good advice for this one; I haven't really talked to anyone about changing my name.)

    1. My first is okay, kind of a mouthful, but most people shorten it. I hate my last.
    2. My last, yes, and I plan on doing so the day I turn eighteen.
    3. I'm dropping one of the names (it's hyphenated).
    4. My family have accepted my name change, and in all "unofficial" places (such as my swimming place, anywhere my last name does not have to be what it legally is) it's been changed to what I prefer it. For a first name though, my family loathe that my friends call me Jacqui. They get pissed off, especially my mum, as she takes it personally since I don't go by the name she chose for me. But honestly, it is up to you. Go for it! Blake is a seriously pretty name. (I know a Blake and he's one of the coolest guys I know, I'm pretty sure you'd live up to the cool factor of the name too.)

I like Nikita. It does sound professional. Nikki is a good name too though. Really, great names! And Naomi Zen is cool, that'd be a great pen name.

I'm going to talk to my friend about it tonight and then probably my mom. I know she'll be supportive.

    do you like your name?

my real name is nikita & i always hated it bc i would get teased for it growing up. it was then that i demanded people call me nikki instead & only a certain few can call me nikita (two in all)

if you could change it, would you?

technically my nickname does me enough justice but i wouldn't. nikita sounds professional so i'd keep it just for that.

what would you change it to?

i always like getting creative w/ names. before i used to be obsessed w/ naomi so i made up the pen name - naomi zen. if i ever get published, i may just use that.

any advice about getting family to call you something else?

family is a tough one. my mom absolutely hates nikki bc she thinks it's not unique but i think if you start w/ cousins or siblings, it'll start a trend or so. many of my aunts call me nikki now & it seems fitting bc they sound so awk calling me nikita.

Oh and to answer your questions:
    1. I do like my name, I don't know many with this name and I am totally ok with that.
    2. I'm not sure, probably not, although I have wanted to be called Alex too.
    3. Alex probably, or Sjors which is a dutch boys name but like alex can be used for girls too.
    4. I think it will have a learning process for them too. Maybe just tell them all at once and it will probably take a while before they are used to it.

HI! Thanks, I think so too.

    1. I totally get you.
    3. I was named after my great grandmother, at least my first name, my mom was able to dissuade my father from giving me her middle name as well. (I can't remember what it was, I think it might have been Evalyn or however that's suppose to be spelt...

Thank you for the advice Smile

HEY BLAKE. I think that name is awesome whether it's for a boy or a girl, so just do you!!!

    1. Eh. It's okay sometimes. I think the name itself is pretty, but I just don't like it as my name, if that makes sense.
    2. Yeah, prolly. I just get tired of people mispronouncing it and misspelling it.
    3. My mom and dad were thiiiiis close to naming me Lauren, which I love, so I'd probably change it to that. Don't know where they pulled Kara from.
    4. I would start with friends first, like everyone said. But I think with family, you just have to let them know you're serious about it and that doing so would make you a lot happier. I think that if they really care about you they'll make an effort. Good luck!!! Hug

Arms Thank you. I might just take you up on that.

    @ Princess of Fantasy
Thank you! I think Mary is a pretty name. I honestly always forget that your name isn't really Hina. I think I might talk to my mom tonight. It's come up before and she knows that I don't like my name so I know she'll be accepting.

    @ The Real Mitt Romney
Mr. Green YES!! And thanks!! I'm definitely planning on talking to my mom tonight. I'm pretty sure she'll be willing to do it. My friends, I'm a bit more afraid to talk to. I don't want them to laugh at me or anything.

    @ tadhana
    Hi!

Your name is so great. Super pretty.
Your advice is fine!! Don't worry about it Smile

oh my, hi there blake tehe

well, ultimately, it's your decision. if you want to change your name, then go 'cause there's gonna be plenty of time for others to get used to the name. but maybe you can break yoir plan to them little by little like dropping hints here and there

    1. i adore my name. it's Kimiko Ciara but I don't like Ciara but sometimes when i listen to Body Party by Ciara, I feel like Ciara

my nickname is kimi and it's often mistaken for a lot of things but one time a guard in my school called me "kiki" (which means vagina) in the whole student body

    2. i dont want to change my name but i dunno

    3. i want to change it to Ava or maybe jinx or or anya

    hahahhahahhahahaha i suck

    4. maybe break it down to them bit by bit 'cause they might be shocked

    i'm a bad-advice giver sorry Don

When you answered my name question for the matzo brie blog (which is not up yet XD) I was actually going to ask if you wanted me to call you Blake from now on. I FUCKING LOVE THAT NAME SO MUCH AND IT FITS YOU tehe

Hey, saying this on Mibba is the first step. I'm in the same process of feeling awkward about brining it up to family.

    1. Not my legal name.
    2. Yes, and I've basically done so on all my internet conections XD most people know me as Spencer. There are some people who call me Lizzy but that was a joke in itself, since I hated being called Lizzy so much. So, I'm pretty okay with them calling me that.
    3. Spencer Con
    4. Oh man Facepalm I feel like there's this level of respect that's totally ignored there, especially when it comes to name and name changing. My friends aren't even keen on the idea of calling me Elle, which is totally taken FROM MY LEGAL NAME BUT YOU KNOW WHATEVER. Honestly, I would start with friends first. I'd ask my friends to call me something else, and after being called Blake for a while, maybe casually bring it up with your family? I mean, I know we're worried about them thinking it's strange. But hey, guess what? It's really dumb and almost strange how we let other people name us. A name is something that's with is for the rest of our lives. If it's okay for people who don't want anything to do with a certain parent to change their name/swap surnames, why would it be different for those who want to change their name simply because they don't like it + don't feel like it's them? That's what I tell myself, though. I think there are more people out there will respect your name change than you'd imagine, but it might take a while.

Maybe start with your closest family member. Explain to them that you're coming to them in confidence that they'll accept what you're going to request of them. It's just calling you Blake, it doesn't affect them personally in any way really - it's your name, not theirs. Hopefully they're receptive and respect your wishes. If not? Straight up tell them you'll never respond to them if they refuse to call you Blake. This is who you are and there needs to be a level of understand and respect, and if it comes down to it, I think that refusing to talk to them until they respect your wishes is the way to go. (if this posts twice I apologise, Mibba's servers don't like me one bit)

Hiiii, Blake! ^^ Blake's a rather cute name, yet it's so sophisticated, too. :)

    1. Do you like your name?
It depends. I like the name Mary because it's pretty, but it's meaning I don't like very much and as for Amanda, which is the second part of my first name (My mom decided Amanda and Mary must be hyphenated), I love it.

    2. If you could change it, would you?
Possibly. I'm so used to being called Mary or Mandy irl that even if I tried changing it, I wouldn't get used to being called something else.

    3. What would you change it to?
Maybe my current name on here: Hina or maybe Celeste. In Love

    4. Any advice about getting family to call you something else?
Try telling your parents that it's important to you that they call you by your new name and explain why its important? I'm not really sure.

Aww, well then, I really love the fact that you'd choose Blake as your new name in honor/remembrance of him In Love Kandi was my mother's sister's name, but I never knew her, and that's kind of one of the reasons I'd never expect my family to just call me "Kandi" because it's associated with her/brings up too many memories.

But seriously, you sound like you're in a similar position to where I was when I decided to go my middle name, and really, it's not worth sticking with it if your name doesn't make you happy/you feel like it's not the best representation of who you are. Yeah, there's gonna be that awkwardness and low-key judgment in the beginning, and you're never really gonna be able to control what other people in your life decide to call you, but at the same time, you've gotta start off somewhere.

Life's waaaay too short to hold yourself back because you're scared of what other people will think Arms But yeah, if you ever need someone to talk to about it, I'm here tehe Been there, done that XD

Smile I'm named after my great grandmother on my dad's side, and I never met her. I'm in the same boat with my dad really, we aren't close at all and it's easy to say he's not really a part of my life.

You wouldn't have to have a middle name I don't think. Blake was actually my grandfather's middle name, and I absolutely loved that man.

Yeah. It makes sense. My mom might go for it, I already know my dad wouldn't - he refused to call me what I had wanted to when I was younger so... I feel like my friends would still call me Ruth when they were talking to each other... Is there an awkward emoji? haha. Thank you though, it is still good advice.
