I'm half-Filipino but my mom makes these foods all the time and omg. Have you had ginataang bilo bilo? It's so weird and I cannot for the life of me describe it but it tastes heavenly.
Fun fact: I was eating sisig when I clicked on this blog.
EDIT: Five minutes after posting this comment, I re-discovered your Buwan ng Wika article.
@ bullets are hailing. At least Chicharon doesn't have dogs in it (thankfully).
@ tadhana I figured as much, given that video that was leaked online a few years ago of some Asian people skinning dogs alive and cooking their bodies ><
Haha, it's okay you didn't know! It's not like I go around screaming "AYYE EVERYONE I'M FILIPINO". Only a few people on here know. I didn't know you were Filipino either and it says right underneath your username that you're from the Philippines.
Aw man, I understand why you'd have a phobia. I've never seen it made in front of me. I get why people would be put off by it because even when I was told what it was, I was all wtf that's weird. But I tried it anyway and still eat it. Now balut on the other hand.
I know, one blog just isn't enough to cover all the different kinds of foods!
@ kitsch I hope you realize that my mom will love you forever because you like kare kare and sinigang.
When you come here, I'm taking you to one of my family parties and you can enjoy all the Filipino food you want.
And banana lumpia is called turon.
@ Princess of Fantasy While some places in Asia do sadly eat dogs, chicharon doesn't have dog in it! Just letting you know.
Wait, Chicharon has dogs in it?! I'm sorry if I'm misreading the part about Chicharon. Did you mean hotdogs or literally dogs? Because you kinda listed dogs in there. And yeah... Sorry, it's making me tear up thinking that the rumors of some places in Asia eat dogs, which I'm sure isn't true.
@ Airi. it's just half of what i have to offer i forgot a lot lol
my mom used to make horrible foods to the point that we didn't eat it and just threw it away 'cause it was charred but then recipes from different sites and all (suggest panlasangpinoy.com to your girlfriend maybe?) made her better -albeit slightly. It's totally better if you visit the Philippines and eat the foods there because there's so much difference if you eat it in another country
Your blog made Filipino foods look good. With the exception of the whole roasted pig thing. x)
My Filipino girlfriend often makes Filipino foods sound rather distasteful to the point where I'm scared to try anything she'll offer me when I visit the Philippines. I'm not sure what to believe now. :P
@ bullets are hailing. HOOLY SHT HELLO THERE I've known you for a while ('cause of the staff) and I didn't know that lol
I have a phobia of dinuguan man one time, my lola cooked it and she put it in a white bowl and she accidentally smeared the blood around the bowl and i couldn't stomach eating it after that
OMG I forgot about bistek!! And champorado i need a part 2 blog
see! that's what i mean! when i think about filipino foods, i get hungry
I'M FILIPINO TOO. Though I'm American born and have never been to the Philippines. Sigh.
And oh my lord you made me hungry with them food pics. ADOBO IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. I COULD EAT THAT SHIT ALL DAY AND NEVER GET TIRED OF IT TBH. Ugh, I love love love sisig and lechon. Another one of my favorites is dinuguan is it weird that i knew what that was before even trying it. As for desserts I love puto, ginataang, my grandma makes amazing leche flan, and my auntie's champorado, man. Oh, and bistek! I had that for dinner today. I could go on and on about all the food.
