I know how crappy it feels to be told you’re too shy to do something. I’ve been told so many times that I wouldn’t be able to do certain jobs because I’m too shy. Even after I worked in a call center, where all I did was talk to people.

Also, you shouldn’t give up on writing if it’s something you’re passionate about. Write for yourself, just to make yourself happy. See where it takes you, don’t beat yourself down before you even give yourself a chance.

You'll find a job, don't worry. Being shy can be kind of a hindrance, sure, but if anything having a job could really help with your shyness. I'm an extremely shy person myself and my first job was working behind a bar. I hated the first couple of weeks -- I had to talk to so many people! But I ended up staying there 2 years, and I'm now in another customer-facing role, and I don't get as nervous talking to customers now that it's something I've done daily for such a long time. Anyway, sorry for rambling, but don't let what they're saying get to you. If you want a job, go get a job and don't let anything stop you.
