@ Join the Masquerade Yeah, I just remember when mibba did the update, a few of my friends off here quit. Which was upsetting. I'm not complaining how it is now. I've adjusted to it. But that goes to say others didn't like the changes.
@ Neon_Skies_Killjoy Man I can't even remember the old way anymore I like that we have no profile layouts now because there were loads of people coming here and treating it like MySpace. They would pretty up their profile and add in a bunch of random surveys and such and never read or write or blog about anything so it seemed. They were just using Mibba as another social platform which is okay I guess, though it seemed to bring a lot of troublemakers just here to cause a scene. I think Mibba profiles nowadays do come across very uniform but I don't necessarily think that's a good thing. I mean, it showcases peoples' writing more. When you click into someone's profile nowadays you're straight away given what they've been reccing and what they've recently updated on Mibba, and your focus isn't pulled to things like surveys and just... junk that people used to write on them. I wish we could at least change the background though or something :/
@ Join the Masquerade The old way to make layouts was a lot easier to understand, for stories. I mean we still technically have profile layouts but no one hardly looks at them anymore. Now it just doesn't seem fun, creativity isn't used as much because in my honest opinion too uniform?
@ Neon_Skies_Killjoy Really? I thought a lot of new users were drawn to Mibba when we were given the layout maker for stories. Like, once people got the hang of how to use it. Yeah, we lost profile layouts, but I sort of liked that. So many people weren't following the rules with them and so once you navigated to their page there was no banner at the top to navigate out again lol
And I also believe that mibba has been on the decline since they updated the layout. I kinda miss the old layout it was a hellova lot easier to navigate
I remember when I would thrive on my stories, now I don't even want to post them because I know no one will read them. I understand that we're all growing up and stuff but it's like hard to believe no one wants to read mcr fanfics and onward. I just started writing to myself so I could possibly publish it. but I never know.
I'm really glad you posted this because I've been debating bringing back some of my "old school" fanfics but sometimes it doesn't feel like theres enough room for my cliche babies anymore. But I guess as long as I like to write it, it doesn't really matter haha.
I do miss reading things similar to what I wrote. It's crazy to think mibba went from MCR to 1D in just a few years.
@ Join the Masquerade Yah you can't post real-person on FanFiction. They delete it pretty fast. But they allow OCs on there now, which they didn't for quite a while. Yeah FictionPress is all original fiction but I was just mentioning it, lols.
@ Deus Ex Machina I think it's band fiction, really. I don't think fanfiction.net accepts it/it's really not very popular there and fictionpress I thought was for original stories only, but I may be wrong. Like it takes ages to gain any sort of following for band fiction and then by the time you do, the fandom has died Mibba is definitely quieter than it was. Not always a bad thing. Far less drama these days
I think it has to do more with Mibba than fanfiction in general. FanFiction dot net is still hoppin'. So is FictionPress. Mibba has been on a long and slow decline for several years now.
another reason why I haven't updated any of my stories in a year... which is so sad and embarrassing. I just don't feel like anyone cares about them anymore.
@ nearly witches. Hahaha I thought about doing that once but then I was like well... if they're gonna LOOK like them then they may as well think and act like them too. And have the same life. And ohh god it's fanfic again :P
Yeah like, every month. Just for us
@ Rooskaya; It feels like the youngins that are supposed to take the place of those with jobs and lives and no interest in fanfic anymore like literally ALL got into 1D and Beiber fan fiction. No one repopulated the old fandoms and it's sad :( I never got into A7X. I was before that time even. When fanfic for them started to emerge and strange what I loved, I knew it was beginning. I should have spent more time enjoying what I had whilst it was there :/
I agree, it's sad to see what used to be popular and big is now a fading memory. That is the fanfiction I grew up with, I made friends with because of, I bonded with others because of it.
But I also think a huge factor is that we are growing up. We're moving on and evolving as people and writers. A lot of people have moved away from fanfiction, other's have moved into other fandoms.
Another thing to take in consideration that the bands have changed too. MCR is no longer a band, A7X is no longer as big as they used to be -- there's new music, new bands, etc etc.
(If you're looking for good A7X fic, super old, but good, check out LiveJournal. I forget what the community was called, but we left everything up to archive there.)
I'd like to hope it does, but deep down I know it'll never happen, haha. I've managed to keep a few things original that I was so sorely tempted to make fanfic, but I don't know how much longer that'll keep up. I usually just get away with it by telling myself that I'll use the person I wanna write a fanfic about as a face claim for an original character.
They do. I mean, the Panic! tag exploded when the last album before Death of a Bachelor came out and I've seen a few fanfics creeping up in the past few weeks for them. I think all the bands on Mibba's major tags section for music should just release new albums and give us all something to write about.
@ nearly witches. I'll eat my hat if it happens :P Haha I can't count the times I've gone in all "I'm gonna write this as an original!" and come out with another Placebo fanfic :P
