It Feels Like Fan Fiction Is Dying - Comments

  • I don't know why you're suggesting it as if it won't happen. It will. They will return, and they will be as glorious as they were before and then I will be a happy little emo child once again. Coffee lmfao But yeah, I love that it's still going, even if it is a ghost of you of what it once was. Shifty I'm considering writing a few things inspired by their music, so I might very well get sucked in again. I was going to write something completely original based on The Ghost of You and ended up writing a three-part fanfiction based on the video, so it'll probably happen again. Coffee

Yeah, I think that could be it. I mean, I'm really into Simple Plan again but because they've not released anything in like 4 years, there's not really a fandom on here. I'm hoping that picks up once they release their new album though.

  • @ nearly witches.
I'm thankful for that small group of people that are hell bent on believing that MCR will get back together one day and are seemingly keeping the fandom alive until then lol. I stopped writing for a while for MCR because I lost interest, but I'll jump back in again soon.

Yesssss I noticed that too. Maybe because they make a new series ever year whereas a band only makes a new album every 3 or so years.

  • I guess different fandoms just have different reactions, though. Thankfully, every time I try to do a rule-break sweep of the MCR / A7X fandoms, it takes me weeks because so many new stories get added at a time. It's kinda nice to see them moving, even if I'm not writing exclusively in the MCR fandom anymore and haven't been since at least 2010. It's just nice to see some activity on the site there.

I reckon that TV fanfiction's overtaken music fanfiction though. I'm always seeing TV fanfiction in the section these days.

  • I hate looking at all the old fandoms that I used to write in for this exact reason. I used to write a lot in the Elliot Minor fandom (the stories were all rubbish though, so they're not on here any more, oops) and the tag used to be massive for a little band from England that weren't even really big anywhere other than the UK and Japan, but now it's dead. Granted, they split up, but it was dead long before that. Also, the McFly tag moves like death as well and it used to be crazy busy.

I'm not gonna stop writing fanfiction, mind you. I'm in the same mind as you, where I write whatever makes me happy. If that involves me writing fanfiction about Dougie Poynter that nobody's going to read, then so be it. I'll do that until the cows come home.

  • This is exactly how I'm feeling too! I've written in Green Day, Avenged Sevenfold, Falling in Reverse, and MCR and none of them are really getting much attention anymore. My FIR fanfictions are my absolute favorite works and I've done some of my best writing in them.

I've honestly considered rewriting them as original so that I can move onto the publishing "stage" (because for me publishing is part of the writing equation), but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it just yet.

I just wish that Mibba would pick back up.

  • It's sad when you see a fandom die out. It's light it has a bright spark and everything is all great and then they just slowly fade away until they kind of dry up. I've always posted on at least two websites, but now I work with four.

Starting last year, I started working on fanfiction and like you said, I get less and less comments about what people think about the story and all that jazz. It's been pretty boring, but I still carry on with my writing; I was happy to get back into fanfiction after I got no response from my original fic.

If you're really looking for a site dedicated to fanfiction, check out Archive of Our Own; they're a fanfic based site and I've gotten quite a few responses out of it. The only issue is joining because you have to send in a request; I can help you put one in though if you're interested.

Dead fandoms though... it's pretty sad. I used to be big in he Black Veil Bride fandom, but when I dropped out of it on DeviantART, all of my previous friends just disappeared and the stories just stopped.

  • The fandoms that I love seem to have died out, teen wolf, the walking dead, etc. Plus people aren't pulling in new fandoms, which would be cool. Deadpool, Shannara Chronicles etc. I mainly see just band fics now and its pretty saddening, nothing against band fics. I'm not a big band fic person. Wrote only one band fic.

  • I feel you. I belong to a couple of fandoms. I used to write for MCR and Green Day religiously, but they died out. So I moved on, tried writing for Avenged but I didnt write typical scenario's so people kinda left me behind, and now my hearts stuck in Dragon Ball Z and Game Of Thrones and the fanbase here is tiny for both, although large in other sites. Makes it hard because Mibba was the only place I could post graphics with the stories and now it's like 'ugh', trying to write anything because I just feel like everything is sinking.

We are the ghosts in dead fandom's graveyards. -sigh-

  • my belief as a reader is that no matter what fandom the story is in it still deserves to be read... All stories can be read as an original if you don't know much about a fandom

  • I get where you're coming from, I've been writing Avenged Sevenfold fimfiction again for the first time in like a year and a half and I have to say that the comments are kind of lacking in the criticism department. And I've been looking for some My Chemical Romance fan fiction maybe I'll check some of yours out because I haven't been able to find much of anything much less anything that was half decent and worth reading.
