I didn't think it was important, but it's nice to know what it means anyway :) nice to meet you.

Oh! Well welcome back then! & don't worry about being messed with here, everyone is pretty weird in their own way!

& the numbers are kind of like article codes. When you post an article or review to the Mibba Magazine, your number goes up. Unfortunately stories and blogs don't improve the number. Not a lot of people pay too much attention to it.

I can't for the life of me remember what breeds of tortoises they had...that's frustrating. I believe they had two species? I definitely remember the male tortoises getting horny with each other. lmfao
I'd like to say they had a female African Spurred tortoise but I wouldn't count on it.

I'm glad to hear that Homer's still there! He was a big softie but a bit of a cheeky bugger too. His cheekiness gave him humorous character.
They didn't have a sensory station when I worked there - sounds especially interesting for the kids!

Thanks for the suggestion. I always think that it must be scary for people to live in areas where earthquakes of damaging scale occur, but I suppose most wouldn't spend much thought on it until it happened.

The glass bottom boat experience sounds amazing! I've never been to SA before but it's definitely a place I'd like to visit.

The rhea is still there, as is Homer and I expect the rest of them too. They only bring one out at a time because they don't have a very big stall for them. I don't know when you were last there, but they've added a sensory station where you can hold snakes and bunnies, which is fun. What kind of tortoises were they, by the way? It didn't say on the info.

The module is really good. I suggest if you want to do some research of your own, you could look at the Christchurch earthquake or the Mt. St. Helens eruption, they're pretty interesting and give a good basis for tectonic hazards. Maths and chemistry are my strongsuit, so if you're ever stuck, give me a shout!

I did an Easter fieldtrip to Wales last year! Unfortunately, it involves a lot of field sketches, and the weather wasn't much better then either. I expect you were really cold- I couldn't hold my pencil after five minutes outside, which made things tricky. But our geologist teachers weren't going to let us give up that easy. Aw, you saw a seal! I tell you what really makes a good observation treat- glass bottom boat. I went on one in South Africa when I was 9 and it was one of the best experiences I've had, they kept diving under the boat and we saw so much.

I'll have a look online and see if I can find a copy. I've heard good things :)

I worked on the Farm section at Colchester Zoo with the tortoises, llamas, pigs, wallabies, goats, snakes, reindeer and horses! Is the rhea still there? How about Truman, Meg and Homer the horses? Truman was a big black lean Irish Draught, Meg was a huge bay Shire cross and I think Homer was a smaller black cob or Shire cross with a fluffy beard and white stripe down his face. I worked with a skewbald cob too but I forgot his name.

That module sounds fantastic! I have found Zoology challenging but also quite interesting and exciting. There is much more Maths and Chemistry involved than I'd imagined.

We were over in Wales on the coast studying marine biology last week and just returned home yesterday. We were right out on the cliff tops during the strong rain/hail/winds of Storm Katie. As you can imagine, it wasn't long before we all retreated back to the coach.
We caught a glimpse of a male grey seal poking his head out of the sea to see what a bunch of crazy humans were doing out in such weather though, which was a treat.

I'm not sure if it's on Kindle, sorry! Would've thought it would be though.

    Hi Lucy,

I think I've actually heard of Berkshire, which is great, cause as a geologist, for some reason I don't know any locations. Colchester Zoo is the best! Used to go there all the time as a kid- and also two weeks ago, because why not.

I had a friend who wanted to get into zoology, but she didn't get the grades. It is very difficult? It sounds so interesting! Yeah, we do a lot on disasters, I'm actually covering a module right now called Earthquake and Volcanic Hazards, which is really interesting. Might include a post about it at some point, so check it out if you're interested.

I don't think I have read that one before, but it certainly would make a change to my usual lineup :) do you know if it's on Kindle?

    Hi Amanda,

Thanks for the message Smile will definitely direct all questions towards you. Is there anything you'd particularly like me to write about? I don't really know how to blog.

    Welcome to Mibba, Samantha!
I'm Lucy and I'm from Berkshire. I haven't visited Essex all that often but I volunteered at Colchester Zoo for a month if that counts. Good times!

Your hobbies and area of study sound very interesting. I am studying Zoology but take an elective module which is all about natural and technological disasters. I'm currently reading a novel by John Steinbeck called Grapes of Wrath which is set during the American Dust Bowl of the 1930s. I recommend it if you haven't read it before.

I'm quite interested in Geology but there's no place that offers that here in my country.

Of course, I'm into stories. I spend most of my time in the story section since I'm also part of the staff. So if you have any questions about the site, don't hesitate to send me a PM. You can also edit comments here.

    Hi Maddie,

Thanks for the reassurance, I always got bullied for being a massive nerd, so it's nice to know I'm not that much of a freak. Hopefully I will stick around, even if it's just to design layouts- god I love this site's coding abilities. I started writing on here when I was 12, back when Quizilla was a thing as well. I was wondering if this site was still here, and then it was, so I decided to set up shop here.

As a frequent user of the site, could you tell me what the numbers next to the usernames mean? I'm curious.

    Hey Kimi,

Nice to meet you. Yeah, geophysics, it's cool stuff. I used to write on here all the time when I was a kid, and was looking for somewhere good to blog. All the blog websites have horrid layouts and I kept thinking 'why can't it be like Mibba where I used to code in exactly what I wanted?' And then I remembered the blog section on here and thought I'd go for it.

Thanks for the advice, it's been a while. What sort of stuff are you into? I really just want a good online community to talk to, so I think this site will be great.
