Soo....what you're saying is that you wouldn't mind being labeled a punk (when the people who started that movement actually hated that title) but you'd hate being called basically anything else?

& how are we so sure that all the people who like Gerard are posers?
You're judging AND LABELING people without getting to know them.

I don't get offended when people call me EMO or Gothic when they see me, all I say is 'EMO and Gothic is a type of music get it right' then I walk away. Labels don't bother me as much as it does other people. You can call me what you will, but I know who I am and what kind of person I am. You and I probably have two different perspectives, but I am commenting honestly.

All I'm saying is that what some people may be proud of, others may find very offensive.
    And what do labels accomplish?
    Nothing.
A person is a person, that's all. How are you ever going to get to know someone for who they truly are if you decide who you THINK they are and leave that as your judgement?
    You cant.

I personally find it really offensive when people use the term 'emo' other than when describing a genre of music. I've been battling depression for a while now and i'm on anti-depressants. You dont see me going around complaining how much I hate my life and calling myself 'emo', whether that is in fact what I am or not. And I don't believe in labeling either because that only creates room for stereotypes. I've been labelled anything and everything, and honestly, the only thing i consider myself to be is myself. Not 'emo', not 'punk', not 'slut' or 'whore', not 'popular girl', just me.

surely there's nothing wrong with labels as long as people aren't being nasty when they call you 'emo' or 'punk' or 'prep'? Everyone labels people, we do it subconciously. If you see someone in the street who has pink hair and is wearing black, chains and studs, you automatically think 'she/he's a punk'. You're not thinking it maliciously, it's just what they are. Labeling is just recognising the differences between people, and there's nothing wrong with people being different, is there?
    hmmm....i don't know.....

Stereotyping and posers are so stupid. I mean, no one really gives a shit if you've just broken up with someone, most poeple that do that are about 13/14 and claim to be 'madly in love' (actually thats really hypocritical coming from me who is actually madly in love with their girlfriend) get on with life. Like their really gunna go slit their wrists just cuz some guy/girl broke up with them...lame.
    Especially Tilly. Stupid teenie poser...

And when i was young and foolish (13) i used to call myself 'emo' but I never onced liked Gerard Way. Synyster Gates was my man and still is *drools* :)

I know how you fell. a;lot of people all them selfs emo because they are feeling down about something like breaking up. i mean seriously. There are people that have worse problems. its horrible how they call actual emo people attention seekers, i mean i understand what it feels like to have a break up or to fell down or what ever but i mean i admit that i am emo but i am for different reasons and not because or a break up or something minor like that.but yes i do hate posers

I don't think people should be labelled at all. It restricts everything you do.
I agree with the emo thing. People who go around calling themselves that are freaking idiots.
Basically, if you decide to label yourself, then you have to stick to the 'rules' of that stereotype, or you will immediately labelled something worse, such as 'fake' or 'poser'.
    It's simply retarded.
