Yeah, I definitely feel that. I know I describe my characters if/when necessary (sometimes I just don't find it is, with certain pieces) no matter if I use a FC or not, but a while back I did see a lot of writing that never described the characters - especially offsite. Maybe I've just been blessed enough to come across stories with great writers like you Shifty

Also I didn't mean to make you repeat yourself! Idk why Mibba is loading things late for me. Even this blog was before mine but didn't show up until a while after I posted Facepalm

That's crazy. I feel like that's kind of like the skinny fit teas that have become hug in America. Always forcing consumers to fit societies image of perfect.

Oh man I've never dealt with it going the other way. In South Asian cultures (though I can't really speak for the others aside from India and Bangladesh, since I know firsthand about that), there's literal creams you can take that will supposedly make you lighter. And actors/actresses bleach their skin all the time. It's an epidemic. I also rarely go outside (so hot all the frickin time Shocked) so I'm super lightskinned (compared to others) and my parents are so adamant on keeping it that way Rolling Eyes

    I shall!

It's so crazy because the black side of my family tell same the opposite. They get mad at me when I go home to NY lighter. Colorism is such BS because it goes both ways. People's families get weird when they get dark and others get weird when they get lighter. (I seldom go outside because I'm a full time student and worker which doesn't allow me to go outside)

I love this so much. Being from a culture where colorism/shadism is so prominent (seriously, I came back from LA this weekend and my mom told me she was legitimately scared I'd gotten darker Rolling Eyes), I really really love this. Please do it.

I know!!! I use google and type in a specific image I'm looking for and usually add the world tumblr at the end or before because it brings HQ/good pics up Wink

I like when its pictures of people but silhouettes because you can't tell if they're white or not.

    @ pocahontas.
Like I said below, I never use FC. I just look up the demographic I'm making my character and use pictures as reference for how I want her to look like.

I always find that posting FC's in banners for fan fiction works makes the author never describe their main character which is frustrating because I think describing people is a writing skill everyone should have and it's just so frustrating because no one ever thinks to make their OCs POC for some reason.

I think face claims are ruining people describing characters we don't know especially in fan fiction because you obviously know what the famous person looks like so it doesn't matter if you pit a picture of them in the banner or cover.

Yeah, for my story "Choose to Stay" I just found a picture that shows the back of the girl, so a faceless one XD that works a whole lot, it also helps the readers who feel weird with the story having actresses/actors/models as the faceclaim. A few people I know don't like seeing them in banners.

I use weheartit, but most of them are all white people, unfortunately for us POC, it's difficult to find what we want when all you see is white. Like !!! if you search 'brunette', no POC comes up first. Sigh. Just thinking about this is making me frustrated as hell.

I know! I seldom use actresses/actors for face claims because media is lacking in POC actors but i just use everyday people that I find on like tumblr or something because it's easier.

All of my stores have main character POC even the ones Im working/posted now, my OC's are alway POC! I may not post face claims, but they are. I always believe that describing a character is far more effective in writing than displaying photos of who the character is supposed to look like hence never posting face claims on banners. Smile

I'm definitely interested! I've been trying to challenge myself to only include non-white FC's but as a fanfic writer, having to find FC's who look like they could be related to this or that existing character has me backtracking. Even going through my stories I notice that I don't really write anything where I need to choose a FC now, except my most recent. (I only chose the FC I chose because the hair matched that of the challenge image.) But I have a bunch coming up that are going to be 90-100% PoC FC's so I'd die give an arm for a reason to add another In Love (Why does "I'd die for" feel like such a common, but weird phrase lol)

Do it, I fully support this. Being a First Nation, Native American lady, I never come across other aboriginal face claims for characters. Sad I mean, sometimes finding pictures of actors/actresses are difficult because we don't get a whole lot of screen time unless it's for an indie film, and those aren't hollywood popular. And you never know which faceclaim is legit or not if you search for native americans, because then you come across light skinned people wearing headdresses Facepalm

So yes, I feel you. Some of the stories I have unposted are POC main characters, the most of the ones that are posted are stories from like 4 years ago or so, haha.
