Perhaps she's got her own stuff going on and her own self hatred for not feeling like shes able to do those things and is projecting her own doubts on you without even realizing? :/
Maybe shes even jealous because you feel like you have that opportunity and maybe she doesnt feel the same way? It could be many things, her own mind, social pressure, family pressure...It's nothing you've done.
[Also, I would highly reccommend Australia if studying around these areas. They have far superior universities than we do here in New Zealand - Plus we have limited spaces for students to live, You'd be looking at around 400 pw at least near Auckland University for a one bedroom that leaks - Australia is your best bet for a fun time, or perhaps Otago university here, if you like the cold. Student housing is iffy again, but it's cheaper down there)
