It just seems that people arent that understanding anymore unfortunately. Writing is about being creative not being limited, even with fanfiction.

I totally agree with you. I think sticking to the source can be very limiting, so it's hard to really do anything different or make it your own. Sometimes that's why I read fanfiction. I like taking things in a different direction or introducing new characters and seeing where I go with it - that's part of the fun of writing.

And that sucks you were harassed, I'm sorry that happened to you. That's just... wrong.

I love writing AUs. While i dont write them very often (unless i despise a canon pairing in my favorite tv shows) I do like the liberties we can take with AUs but dont worry about the complainers. A lot of people, those that read fanfics but dont write them, always think that, those of us that do write fanfics, are here to write stories strictly for their entertainment and that we should adhere to what they want to see in a fanfic. While I dont mind taking a few interesting suggestions from people that do read my stories, I generally dont like using ideas handed to me with the expectations of me being able to write out the idea in an instant. Dont let them get to you.
