I feel bad for you and I can relate to a lot of what you are saying. Sometimes a parent has this idea of who they want you to be in their head. They’ve probably had this idea of who they want you to be since you were born. But they fail to realize that we’re human beings, and just because they gave birth to us doesn’t mean they can control us. I really hope things get better between you guys. Maybe you’re right in that you guys just need space. Esepcially since being around your dad causes you this amount of distress. Family is a great thing, but they can be just as toxic as any other relationship. And while you can never really cut ties like you can with toxic friends or other toxic people, you can distance yourself. You’re smart to do that. Again, I hope things get better and you’re happier in the future. But also that you and your dad’s relationship gets better as well.
