Stereotyping is not always a bad thing. It is the negative stereotypes that should be depleted.

I live in New Zealand and we have completely different brands to you guys where ever you live. The mainstream clothes labels here sell both stereotypical "emo" and "prep" clothes in the same store. So there's no seperation between either.
The word prep is barely used here. I hope it doesn't become a big thing either, we already have enough negative stereotypes as it is.

Don't let the labels bring you down though. One day they will disappear and only be but a distant memory.

But, the good side of negative stereotypes is at least you will be able to seperate the open minded people from the narrowminded.
Anyway i hope you enjoyed Christmas.
    Peace out.

People stereotype because it makes them feel better about themselves.

As well, labels give people the sense of a community. People label themselves and them label others to 'hate' etc etc

I think people naturally stereotype because it is first impressions, you know? We do is subconsciously. Animals do it too, if you think about it. They look at another animal and label whether or not it's prey, or to be feared, etc.

As humans, though, we label and like to emotionally hurt each other. The human mind is really weird. We'll probably never be able to understand it.

I agree, but here everyone shops at Hot Topic. I have a pair of pants from American Eagle-they got a hole from me wearing them too much- they're really comfy. The only reason I get called emo is because I wear band shirts that aren't either Ramones, Drop Dead Gorgeous, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, or Sublime.

I'm sorry to anyone who likes them, but in my opinion they have no musical talent.

Yeah, agree. I bought and wore clothes that I felt comfortabble to wear and depends on the occassion. I bought my clothes wherever my mom bought me to. I don't mind as long as I am not naked.

I hate it too. I buy clothes from Walmart and people I know think that if you get clothes from there your trash. I also get clothes from Hottopic...the skinny jeans actually and people think I'm emo and I'm not.
Really emo is shit now. Everyone thinks that if you have your hair a certain type of way and certain type of pants on then your emo..which made emo shit.
But people stereotype probably so they can label. Hollister=prep.....stereotype and labeling. Hottopic=Emo/Goth....stereotype and labeling.
    That's was makes people pathetic.
