find a band that plays worse music with way depressing lyrics and all that jazz and play that instead... then MCR will seem like *tries to think of some modern pop band* uhm, i got nothing... but try it...
Or point out that all pop music as such is either about people wishing they could die because some one broke their heart, heart breaks, them being depressed because their in love with some one else, etc etc...
(Not sure if 'pop' is the right catergory, some one may say 'pop' is popular music, therefore MCR could be classed under there because they are sometimes popular, but oh well)
OR explain what the songs are about and all that... like "Yeah, this isn't telling me to do myself in, it's about Gerard's dead grandma." or "You know, he'd not singing about real vampires, it's supposed to be a metaphor for society (or something liek that I think)." and things...January 4th, 2008 at 04:06am -
I would just ignore it.
My mom likes MCR but my dad hates them.
Not because he thinks they sing about death and stuff because he thinks there music is crap and Gerard sounds nasily. That's what we fight about majority of the time really, My Chemical Romance.
But it's cool because you have to stick up for the band that saved your life!January 4th, 2008 at 03:38am -
The thing about My Chem is, that even though they sing about death and things they do it in a sort of positive way, if that makes sense. I mean, just look at the lyrics to WTTBP. That's a pretty happy song, in my opinion.January 4th, 2008 at 03:13am

The same with my parents!
Although, my mom is getting to like them.
When they try putting them down, you try to explain in but you end up thinking they are right.
I always talk about the good stuff they've done.
And play some good songs.
Remember, they hate the music, not the people.

Well, they do sing about death you know.
You could try looking for a Rolling Stone article about them.
I know the one article, where I discovered INO from it, explained about their music quite well.
Or you could do what youbothsuck.com said. Play a different CD, and a happier one.
But like Britt said, my mom likes all my music, so i never really have a problem. :DJanuary 4th, 2008 at 01:14am -
isnt it just death what they sing about?
i know what your mom means, and its cause they do sing about death, obsessive fans could take the lyrics a tad too far. she's only looking out for you.
you should play a different CD in the car... not MCR and one with cheerier matters at hand,
but hey, thats just me.January 4th, 2008 at 01:05am -
...try explaining why you like them?
I'm not good at giving advice like this...my mom likes everything I listen to.January 4th, 2008 at 01:03am
Oh, try that! Marilyn Manson is much more, uh... "vulger" than My Chemical Romance. Show her the ugly side of things!
