Why are they your heroes? - Comments

Pssh having heroes is stupid. Looking up to people just means the you are lower than them. I think people should be their own hero. No matter who your hero is, someday they are going to disappoint you. Artists will sell out, politicians will become corrupt, friends will leave you, family will die. If you're your own hero, you don't need to worry about that stuff so much.June 11th, 2008 at 02:50pm

Pete Wentz tried to commit suicide. He made it through it, a better and stronger person. Gerard way, struggled with addiction, made it through, stonger and better. They are heros because they made it through things that most couldn't. They survived it, and its like saying "Hey, we made it through, so can you!"
Like I've said to the million other journals, just because you don't see the reason for someone to be a hero, doesn't mean that others don't have their reasons. You may not look up to someone like Pete, Gerard or Bert, but I gaurentee theres someone that is famous that you look up to. An athlete, musican, presidental candidate, whatever.
But don't sit there and ask the question Why? beacause you'll never understand why someone looks up to someone, regardless of what that persons went through.June 6th, 2008 at 07:56pm -
They are heroes to certain people because they can relate to things they say, they inspire them, they give them faith etc.
Heroes don't have to be superhuman. Everyone makes bad choices in their lifetime. Pete Wentz is my hero because he has SO many faults but he's managing to make the best of them. He's an inspiration to me. Even though he's been through crap and he's done crap he still manages to do amazing things. He's an ordinary person who can do extraordinary things. Oh so tragic! said it better than me. ;)June 6th, 2008 at 07:52pm -
Well, look at it from a different point of view. There are kids out there who have tried to commit suicide, and who have become addicted to drugs and alcohol - when they see this person they might respect and look up to (even if it's 'just' a guy in a band) overcoming such things, who is to say it can't inspire them to do the same?
I admit, it can be a little tiring, always seeing these 'MCR saved my life!' stories and journals, but really...I don't see a problem with them. True, in about 98% of these cases, that claim is probably not really true. But sometimes these kids don't realize that. But if they think a band saved their life, and as a result they have a better, happier outlook on things and the quality of their life has therefore improved...I see no reason to be against them thinking that a band saved them, or a band guy is their hero.June 6th, 2008 at 07:41pm -

Ghandi and Lacey Mosley are my heroes.
Although Lacey Mosley did attempt suicide, I find it fascinating how she found God and now devotes herself in saving others. Thats what makes her heroic.June 6th, 2008 at 07:39pm -
i agree with oh so tradgic! Gerard Way and Pete Wentz are just showing you how life is and they are showing us that we can over come our past no matter how bad it is and have a brighter future.Thats why they are our heroes.June 6th, 2008 at 07:35pm

My hero is Annie Leibovitz...and Darth Vader...but does it really matter? Let people be inspired by who they want, as long as it helps them, why should it matter? Honestly you're just asking the same question sooooo many others have asked already on this site...
I also second everything Oh so tragic! said, she is right [[in my opinion]] and she has much truth to what she postedJune 6th, 2008 at 07:33pm -
The fact is, the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. People try to commit suicide, people struggle with addictions. It's stupid to pretend that these things aren't important and that they don't happen, because they do.
I think "perfect" role-models are a very, very bad thing, because life isn't perfect. People like Gerard etc, however, show that yes, addiction and depression etc happen, but that is possible to overcome it and make something of your life.
That's the sort of role-model we need - Not perfect examples of everything that the world SHOULD be, but living examples of how the world is and that despite lifes problems, it's possible to achieve amazing things.June 6th, 2008 at 07:20pm -
i've wrote a journal on why mcr are my heoros.

My dad's my hero. I love those rockstars but they're not my heroes. I always look up at my dad and he's my role model.June 6th, 2008 at 07:03pm
@Sevenfold.Sex: But most people CAN get through those things. What do you think happens to all the billions of people out there with depression, addictions and everything else? You think they just all die? No. Millions of them get better and overcome that stuff. Gerard Way is not the only one.
@Tweezle: I think you said it exactly right. You rock!
